View Full Version : "Hi, I just sent you an email"
porcupine 04-27-2002, 02:27 PM Is it just me, or should this be added to the rules. Does anyone recall when the advertising forums had replies disabled because thats all that ever happened? Can someone write this into the formal rules, because i'm positive im not the only one who gets irritated when he opens up his inbox and gets 10 thread notifications, 8 of them with idiots going "hi, i just sent you an email".
What does everyone else think about this?

cperciva 04-27-2002, 02:47 PM Participants may not instruct users to check your e-mail, check your PM, or inform them that they've got mail or a new PM, or any variant thereof. This rule is also applicable in the advertising forums.
Is that what you were looking for?
porcupine 04-27-2002, 02:47 PM I probably should have made this a poll.... heh

Whoa, when did that come in? I never noticed that before.... Though i've been quite active in telling people not to do that (out of annoyance, if i check my email, go to the forum and find that i usually tell em to cut it out), i didn't notice that rule was implamented
cperciva 04-27-2002, 02:52 PM I think that was added when they were rewriting the rules post-April 1.
Chicken 04-28-2002, 02:58 PM Yes, it is a new one, however just like all the other guidelines, people don't follow it unless it is pointed out to them. To me, that rule was common sense, but well... we've made it a rule so we can point people to it at least and say, "Seeeeeeee!" :D
blacknight 05-21-2002, 01:25 PM I just wish it was enforced more actively :D
insiderhosting 05-21-2002, 01:30 PM hey Myles,
I just sent you an e-mail. Couldn't resist.
Ok all kidding aside I agree 100% with all of you in that those types of posts don't add anything to WHT, except in the rare occasion when I post an offer to a request and then 20 e-mails get's added to my inbox, with all the other host's offers half of which state "I just e-mailed you let me know what you think".

Don't be afraid to use that helpful 'report this post' feature as there's more of them than we'll ever see alone.

viGeek 06-06-2002, 01:57 AM I agree,
Sometimes when even asking for advice, someone will take it the wrong way and email me with their web hosting offers. I use the PM feature legitamently, and when i come on here and see "1 new personal message", i get excited. But only to find out its just some junk from a web hosting company.
iamdave 06-06-2002, 11:57 PM I think it needs to be added to the rules, because after a while it gets annoying, reading "I emailed your" or "I PM-ed you." I'm sure that everyone knows how to check their PMs and if they feel that it is necessary and important enough, they will check it.
