I have been having problems with my RAQ4, and have been fiddling around trying to correct them. The problem is now .HTACCESS doesn't seem to work.

The folder owner is "root" and the group is "site1", but when I use the following code in .HTACCESS it doesn't work :

#Access file
order allow,deny
allow from all
require group site1
Authname WebStats
Authtype Basic

I have not altered this code in any way, and it worked the other day, but i'm not sure what I have done to stop it working. (this is the webalize .htaccess by the way.. it's always worked before)

It won't let me in even if I use the site administrator user/pass, or my admin one.... both are in the group "site1"

Help!

Does the site have FrontPage Extentions installed?

it's not on a "site" as such.... it's on the whole raq... it's the webalizer stats.

As for frontpage extensions.. they are not installed at all anywhere on my server.

I hate to *bump* a thread, and I promise to only do it this once, but i'm really deaparate to solve this problem. I'm sure it is something simple, I just don't understand how the security in Linux works... Is there anyone who can help... if not can you point me to somewhere where I may be able to get help?
