Hi gang, got another question for you all.
I am looking for some forum script/software for building a community that the following features:
- Main page with updatable news, calendar etc
- Gallery feature for members to upload etc
- Forums
I know I can go phpnuke or a similar CMS but I am wondering if there is something even more robust out there?
any suggestions are appreciated

I think you should go with phpnuke, if you think to switch to another CMS in future but you want to keep your data, you'll find the best support for changing over from phpnuke to another CMS as well.

If you use a forum like 'Invisionboard' you can have the forum and then install some 'Hacks/Mods' to be a Portal and Gallery. I'm not sure but I think that Invisionboard have a Gallery.

phpnuke covers quite a bit of ground however it's highly unstable, always in a state of flux, a myriad of security issues and is one of the most resource intensive and inefficient CMS's out there. However, if you like the nuke framework, check out CPG-Nuke. It's a complete re-write of PHPNuke 6.5 (maybe 7.0, don't remember) but with significantly more efficient queries, much smaller footprint and better security. Unfortunately it still uses phpBB so any holes that pop up there will need patching.
As suggested, look at Mambo/Joomla which integrate easily with Simple Machines (clone of vB). You also have e107 and a few others. I personally use Drupal and via a "bridge", have integrated it with my vBulletin. Drupal is a bit daunting however so stick with something a tad bit easier if you aren't comfortable w/ PHP.
also, check out http://cmsmatrix.org and form there you can compare packages side-by-side to see which one works best for you.

Joomla integrated with www.simplemachines.org is the most robust solution IMHO.
