View Full Version : Modernbill - Did I make a mistake?

I bought, downloaded and installed Modernbill after reading alot of good things about it. This is version 3.0.6. There is no manual available and virtually zero documentation for what appears to be a fairly complex system. Now I have virtually no patience, which is my own fault, but I'm not sure what to do. They offer no phone support, just support forums, which are great when someone who knows something about the product is answering questions, but there's noone there now, or for the last several hours as far as I can tell. I tried joining their majordomo list, but got no reply that I was added or anything. Any other new modernbill customers feeling as frustrated as me? I saw a couple of posts that they are "working on" their manual. But what does that mean? Also, it seems to me that if you're selling a product like this that is fairly complex and involved to set up, you owe it to your customers to at least send a "Getting Started" email that will walk them through setting up the product until the manual is ready. Am I off base here? Can anyone explain to me the basics of creating a client, adding a package and then invoicing and billing the client? I get as far as creating the client and package and adding the package to the client, but when I try to generate invoices, they are all $0. Can someone tell me where I can buy a clue? Please???

This is an odd thing that I noticed right away. You need to switch one of the radio buttons (read the fine print) when you generate an invoice. Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but I've uninstalled it and can't look myself.

I've found other very odd shortcomings, too. It's weird because it's such an attractive system. Looks like they need to spend a little more money on programmers, and a little less on designers.

I bought it a few months ago and don't use it. So, you're not alone.

Thanks. Anyone know where this radio button is? I hate to use WHT for MB support questions, but at least I'm getting responses here!

actually I just renewed my support for it (another 6 months), and have never installed it to production usage. So far it's been less than impressive with the updates and bugs, though it's usable from reports. I'm just waiting for a solid release that doesn't require constant updates.

Still awaiting confirmation of my CC so I can download 3.06, though it'll be upgraded to whatever the stable is (if/when)

I'm happy they're at it, fixing this and that and improving it, but the wait on *the* version of modernbill has been a long time coming.

ok, I saw that, but still have no access to the download area. I'll take this up on the MB forum as I have access (so presume all is good) :)

Just an update. Although I am still struggling to learn and use Modernbill, and the jury is still out as to whether it will prove to be a viable system for "production usage" as akashik says, I do have to say that I've gotten some helpful assistance from both Michael (admin) and several helpful users on the forum.
