I am in the process of designing my web hosting interface and i now need some ideas/feed comments on the sections for the navigation.

The main navigation currently consists of 6 buttons.

Home, About, Products, Members, Links, Contact Us

I want to change the Members and Links and call them something else. I want to include Tutorials, Articles, a Directory and Industry News so how should i name the two remaining buttons?

Resources and Directory?
Toolkit and Directory?
News and Resources?

Should tutorials, articles and industry news be categorised under one section (eg. toolkit) and the Directory under the seperate link?

Quite simply i want to make my hosting site not only for buying hosting but also as a useful source of information... so that visitors have a reason to come back even if they dont buy a hosting package!!!

Your thoughts...

If you mean a directory for other hosts to add themselves in then I would go with Resources and Directory, but use Hosting Directory insted.

I would persume the Links is the hosting directory and industry news, and the Members a protected page with your tutorials and articles?

the directory will be really for anything web related... obviously i probably wont allow other hosting companies to be in the directory as thats rather counter productive!!!

Think i may have confused u slightly, i am removing the members and link buttons... members access will be through an alternative link on the page (not in the main navigation). The word links is too general therefore i want to remove/change that link in the main navigation as well.

I basically need to some how group the extra features under the two spare buttons... but im not sure what to call the buttons. I think i should group tutorials, articles and industry news under one of the buttons (possibly calling it toolkit or resources) whilst adding a directory as the other spare link.

Neither of the two new links are for members only, they are for anyone who visits the site!!!

Neoboffin, so you think Resource and Directory as the two free links in the main navigation?

So not Toolkit instead of resources then? although i spose technically articles, industry news and tutorials arent tools!!!

have you been watching teenage, mutant, ninja turtles again??? lol

Im going to call the two spare navigation buttons Resources and Directory.

Im also thinking about removing all flash components and just having a plain and simple site without flash. The current nav and header uses flash... although there are text links at the bottom of the page for seo, so bad use of flash navigation for the menu really isnt an issue!!! If i can get the same nav effect without flash then so be it!!!

No.. But it sure brings back memories..

I think flash is for animation only. Flash can be a good thing, but I wouldn't use it for header links, unless you have a groovy affect; but that's just my opinion.

Is your site online? Can we have a look?

sabian1982, I think you are on the right track with 'Resources' and 'Directory'. Those are broad terms and don't really limit the amount of content you can place within each.

As for the flash, I would recommend using it only for effect or to call something out on your site. For people who don't have the ability to view flash components within a website, it can get very frustrating when navigation or other equally important areas of you site are inaccessible. I vote for keeping it simple ! :)

Thanks for the info, ive decided to go for Resources and Directory as they seem to be the most generic words for the two sections!!!

I have got the site up and running under a test URL although of course none of its offical yet, im not really too happy about post the url here, however if you srnd me a pm or email ill send you the url and the username and password as the directory with the site in is currently password protected.

Needless to say the site isnt finished yet but you can definately get an idea of what its going to look like when its finished!!!
