Do you think WebHostingTalk should add this type of hack to the forum? It would save bandwidth and time if they added the post quick reply feature at the end of each post. See the Yaxay.com site for an example. Also here is a screenshot of the feature.

I'm not sure if it would save bandwidth. The view:reply ratio is pretty high here.

Yes

I use it at Yaxay and LOVE it :)

Yes, I do believe they should add that. It is much easier! I was going to recommend this hack to Headsurfer but I thought he had more things to worry about then that. :stickout

I think it would save a bit on bandwidth though because you would basically cut out the need for newreply.php and all the images and data it has. I mean its probably only what 50k for the entire page but multiply that by 1000 and you save a lot on bandwidth. The quick reply feature will allow WHT to not load another page. I dunno - My brain just farted. Thanks. ;-)

Edit --- 111k to be exact and 60/61 files total.

true

but in the other end, becuse it becomes so painless to reply .. more people are bound to do so ;)

everywhere ive seen quickreply used, all you get is the reply box
if you want the smilies box or any of the other stuff, you have to go to normal reply :)
that way the topic page size doesnt increase much at all

I'm sure ther's allot of PHP tallent, hanging around this board:
Why don't we make it an option in the preferances? That way the dialup people can turn it off, and the well connected can turn it on.

Best of both worlds, shurley?

Actually it benefits Dialup users the most, as they/we don't have to load the normal reply page, which saves downloading another 100k+ for the sake of about 512bytes or so for the quick reply box to be loaded on the thread view pages.

Someone on this thread just said that it takes more time for the page to load with it on.

Actually it benefits Dialup users the most, as they/we don't have to load the normal reply page, which saves downloading another 100k+ for the sake of about 512bytes or so for the quick reply box to be loaded on the thread view pages.

Well of course it will take slightly longer for the thread view page to load, maybe another 0.5 - 1s, but then again they aren't looking at the benefits that they don't have to load the normal reply page which is about 100k in size, thus saving them 10-15s on loading that. So you save time in the end.

Its a very easy hack to install...
Its just the fact that you have to redo the hack each and every time your upgrade.... And redo the templates.... Etc..

... and the fact that as soon as you hack your vB your support guarantee is void.

But this board's prolly been hacked before... *scratches head* Oh well. :stickout

Or what they can do is add different styles to this board, and one of those will have their own hacks/etc.

And the user can switch to other styles that they want.

I am pertty sure this hack is at vbulletin.org

Void really?

Why does vBulletin.org exists?

You must have a vBulletin.org license to download the hacks, and if you hack vBulletin, doesn't this mean you can't download them, because the license is just, well gone?

Maybe just support I guess.

This hack would literally take 5 mins. I think it should be implemented. I put in a suggestion but never heard back.

Your license stays intact... But you will not get support if you have problems, since you change the files they wouldn't know whats wrong and it very well could be the hack doing it.. So they will not support it....

Just the support guarantee. You can go to vB.org and get support from there, but it's still not the real thing (oh boy am I going to get criticized for this. :D) and if anything goes wrong you can only blame yourself.

Still didn't prevent me from hacking up our vB completely, though. ;)
