A local business in my area has asked me to build a site for them and also host it for them. No problem. That is, until I try to figure out how to change DNS info or registrar.
This customer registered their .com through QuickBooks. The domain name at this point is just parked. When I do a whois, it does not actually show a registrar listed. But what I did notice is that my customer is not listed as admin and technical contacts. The address appears to match that of Intuit (Quickbooks), and the email contact is something @biznic.net.
In this particular case,
How do I find out who the actual registrar is?
How do I transfer the domain name to another registrar?
Thanks for your help.

Before going into the way to deal with this if it's messy, can you clarify if the Registrant is in fact your client.. ?
If it is, then the next steps can be plotted out, if not, then your client needs to contact whoever they paid for the domain and ask them to either provide access to the records, or if this is not possible, then to record your client as the Admin contact AND put a valid email address that your client can access without any problems.
From there you have enough control to transfer the domain to another registrar where control is easy and in real time..
You can email me if you prefer not to place certain info here.. but to check the actual registrar do a whois lookup and you should see which ICANN registrar is involved.. OR if it's an old CORE registrar [quite possible here] then they have an IDcode.. possibly actually Intuit..
Good luck.. let us know if you get it sorted out .. :)
Thanks for your reply, Felix220.
Yes, the registrant is in fact my client.
When I did a whois at Directnic, it showed the domain name servers, but it did not list any registrar. So how does my client go in and change the contact info/email address? More importantly, how does he find out who the registrar is?
Hmm.. if I knew the domain name I could easily check, but you may not find that appropriate, and I don't know whether directNIC whois is their own data base or global, so go to http://samspade.org and type the SLD.TLD in there and click the do stuff button.. this should show you the actual registrar among the results.. if you want to PM/email me with the domain [you are safe :) ] I can check for you if you like..
