Hello...

I'm hosting a web site (www.myname.com) and a local ISP is hosting the email. Right now on my raq I've just got the myname.com in the list of the web sites. I didn't set it up in the DNS or anything. When I try to send email (using sendmail via a php script or something) it bounces back with the following headers:

me@myname.com
(reason: system config error)

Do I have to make any special entries for the mail to get sent back to the other ISP?

Thanks,

Do you mean that you haven't added any DNS records for the domain?

No...there isn't any DNS for myname.com on my Raq server. The local ISP just pointed myname.com to the IP of my Raq and I just set it up right on that front "site management" page.

Hello,

You have to just set normal DNS entries for the domain name. For the MX Records, just change the mail handler from mail.domain.com to ISP's provided MX record.

I guess that would do it!

I'm a bit confused... I've been planning to escape handling my own DNS on my iddy-bitty RaQ2 because I just want to pare down to as little traffic and such as I can get away with.

I have several domains through enom.com and through their DNS panel, I've set the A and MX to point to the IP address of my server.

Am I hearing that this will not work? That I will have to get my hands dirty with setting up some DNS records on the local server?

I'm jumping in to a whole new ball of wax with this dedicated server. I have only two more weeks to get everything migrated from my current virtual accounts to this new platform (without incurring additional costs - i'm a cheapskate and poor too:) )

Looking forward to a bit of sage advice!

Thanks
