Im looking at getting a RaQ at rackshack and was wondering if they charged for reboots or software restores.

I was also wondering if they offer any backup service for RaQ (ie: RaQ gets hacked and all sites destroyed)

Thanks!

Reboots = FREE
RESTORE = $29.00 for 2-24 hours $69 for 1-2 hour
BACKUP = NO

usually with unmanaged dedicated machines, the backups are left to you (something i found out the hardway when i came from virtual hosting last year). i now do tri-weekly backups of my databases.

if the bandwidth isn't that big of a deal for you and depending on what you need to do with it, there are other options, since rackshack are usually sold out anyways, it seems.

Anyone know of a company who provides backups with RaQs?

Thanks

Stay away from Rackshack. They sell you space and dont tell you that you could be blocked from half the net:

RackShack loves spammers (http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=rackshack&as_ugroup=news.admin.net-abuse.*&num=100&as_scoring=d&hl=en)

Easy. I have. I've done ones that are local but big (handle the hosting for 60% of our businesses), and they dont come up in any newsgroup..

Maybe because they dont faciliatate spam, is not the source of spam or get money from spammers? Ever thought of that?

You'd be surprised at what kind of information comes up in newsgroups. This site may offer information about Webhosts and such, but they dont give you the BIGGER picture.

Dare you to plug in your domain name or the webhost you are under and see what kind of info you pick up.

Edit: You're clean as a whistle btw, and your upstream idir.net/grapevine.net is clean to . It only comes up as a TARGET of spam (dictionary attacks) but not a source. In fact as I see it, it has one of the best places to learn about spam and its affect on people's servers.

congrats for being on a server that actually fight spams and doesn't allow it one bit.

Well, my experience of RackShack is that they take your money and then cut you off after 2 weeks, claiming you have been DoSing people. This is absolutely not true, to be honest I don't even know how to DoS.

I have spoken to other people and they have had the same problem, looks like a case of fraud to be honest.

yup, we have an entry in that newgroup. From 6 months or more ago, a one time spammer that got nuked in less than 3 hours from signup. I guess he hit the wrong people as the abuse reports came back right away. Pulled his plug without a second thought, but there it is for all to see till the end of history. :)

The internet has an uncanny ability to record just about everything that's ever been done.

Ha ! You were shown logs, you were tracked down to your MAC address and you admit to giving out shell accounts to multiple people and the server launched a 65,000 packet per second SYN flood from your server, and someone else is the fraudulent one?

Right, like those other dedicated hosting providers like the one who has 37,000 entries, or another one I saw with 2800. :rolleyes:

Step off your soapbox, Mr. Perfect.

Dude, get off your soap box. Im just stating a proven fact that Rackshack supports spammers.

IF ITS not hard to believe, THERE ARE ISPS' that dont tolerate spammers and kick them off as soon as they are reported to them.

Rackshack doesn't. They collect abuse complaints and keep spammers. I rather not give my money to a company that supports them.

The guy who posted above is on a server that isn't even listed on any spammer support pages, in fact the server/isp/webhost he's on is mentioned AS BEING one of the more active isps out there that act on complaints. So before "mouthing" off, why not research. Shows your ignorance on the subject.

To each his own.

Look at this (http://dell.hurdmanivr.com/hous/commonreport.html?compid=23000212) kind of makes feel like getting two (2).

Patrick, heh. Your "Abuse department" didn't respond to me whatsoever, after 10 emails spread across a week. Your service is apalling and your attitude is even worse.

StephenM - It's odd that it was completely ignored if it was a substantiated complaint, we even recently adjusted our AUP to get these kinds of people mentioned by WizyWyg off our network ASAP:

BEGINNING IMMEDIATELY, anyone hosting websites or services on their server that support spammers or cause any of our IP space to be listed in any of the various Spam Databases will have their server immediately removed from our network. The server will not be reconnected until such time that you agree to remove ANY and ALL traces of the offending material immediately upon reconnection and agree to allow us access to the server to confirm that all material has been COMPLETELY removed. Severe violations may result in immediate and permanent removal of the server from our network without notice to the customer. Any server guilty of a second violation WILL be immediately and permanently removed from our network without notice.

Though we do not agree with the way some databases handle their blocking we scan them regularly for all of our segments to flush them off our network.

Forward your email to patms@ev1.net and I will look into why you were not responded to.
