Ok, I was wondering how many .names their are I know of .com .org .gov .net .cc .nl .sk .us .uk and what others?
and if i wanted to start a .what ever how would I do that?

.edu, .info and .biz
The latter two are the newest apart from the "revamped" .us.
cc .nl .sk .us and .uk are country codes, every country has one. Some sell to the public, others don't.
You won't be starting one anytime soon. It's a very complicated process that involves governing bodies and lots of cash upfront.
They just opened it up to new TLD (top level domains) other than the original ones last year. You had to put forth a proposal and a $50,000 nonrefundable fee to even be considered.
Rejected ones included .xxx and .kids
