I have been using Plesk for a long while now but I am thinking of switching ot Ensim. For one thing it is a lot cheaper. However the main thing is that I was checking our the demos and it seemed that Ensim was more customizable and had more features. What would you guys choose?

Well, Chris, looking at your post count, I would think that you would use the search button to find the dozens of threads available.

Why do people do this. I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for. Why can't people just help me and answer the question instead of giving a remark

What would you guys choose?

This has to be the most annoying question on this forum when it relates to Ensim or Plesk. It seems there are hundreds of RS start-up host asking this question (not you, just making a generalization), what seems to be everyday. Even the mods are sick of it. I have seen Chicken close post because of it.

You asked "What would you guys choose?". So a search! There are numerous polls, and even more post on this.

I think what Peter is pointing out, is that someone with a title called "I'm always here!" and with over 1000 post probably would know where to look or would have seen this answered 100 times. :)

But control panels always add new features and it will be useful to discuss about them from time to time.

Control panels are one of the most important tools of hosting business and it is ordinary that we always discuss about them.

But about the question.

I must tell that ensim has more features and is more professional but moving from plesk or any other CP to ensim is not very easy (it is not easy to move from any CP to another at all).

I have moved some sites from Cpanel to Ensim and I think it was painful for me after 12 years of development and administration of BBS software, novell, Unix, NT and 2000.

I'm sure it will be more painful for my customers so i have not moved some of my newbie customers to avoid those pains.

Regards,
Mac

I don't mean to be unhelpful. But really, both plesk and ensim have demos available. And I just saw a comparision a few days ago. I didn't say anything because the poster was a newbie, but I have never seen someone with more than 200 post count would post such a question.

I agree that control panel do changes and get updated. I am not saying that we should have only one thread dating from 1997(or whenever the control panel was released). However, the frequency of such posts are just rediculous! There are sometimes two to three identical posts on the same topic. It is as if people doesn't even read what's going on before posting.

Trust me, Chris, if you do a search, you will find more than you can read.

Even what Mac said has been mentioned before many times, e.g. ensim is more professional, plesk has reseller, etc...

Ensim is definitely one of the most secure control panels, but it is also very fickle. I have never used Plesk, but the reason I chose Ensim over it was the interface. Here's my biased opinion ;)

Pros
======================
- Very Secure
- Nice interface and decent documentation
- Easy to Administrate
- All add/modify user functions can be run from the command line
- Sub-User accounts (@ ~username of username.domain.com)
- Unlimited subdomain hacks are available
- A decent support community (although I believe Plesk's is much better)

Cons
======================
- Esoteric filestructure
- Based on a postgresql db which occasional causes confusion
- MANY MANY config files (deleting a site manually is a nightmare)
- Upgrading packages is difficult (php, mysql, etc.)
- Little support from Ensim itself (although Chris AKA Hunter has helped a lot - I know he's saved me personally from disaster several times)

Hope that helps.

I always hear of bugs with Ensim. I don't use it though, so I wouldn't have the experience to say.

Must agree with MadSkilage. Ensim gets the job done and is easy to use, but can be very slow and occasionally very delicate (like when I tried to change some DSN stuff for a site last night using Ensim and I ended up spending 2 hours restabilising to a state where I could make backups and delete it, make a new account and then restore the site, as all the DNS records for the site were totally f*cked).

I must say that I have been using Plesk for a while now and am generally quite happy with it!! One thing I like about it is the ability to easily upgrade core packages (PHP , MySQL etc.) A lot of the other CP's seem to be very dependent on specific or customised versions of core system packages that are regurlarly exploited. Then you have to wait until the developer releases a patch. :(

Stay with PLESK.
