Hello,
I am having some troubles on a server that is running CPanel. For some reason, peoples emails are getting delayed. They will send them out, and for some reason or another it will take a couple of hours to finally get delivered. This is not a problem for local addresses, those are delivered instantly. The server is running Red hat 7.1
Any ideas on why this would be happening?
Thanks!

Have you checked the mail logs for any errors or errors of delay? Could be anything from improper dns setup to just an issue with the server the email is trying to be sent to....

Yes, well I guess that is probably the root of the problem right there. I have not come up with a way to check the logs. I mean they are huge, so I can't download them , and opening in a text editor doesn't quite work (b/c they are so big).
How do you usually view the logs?

On large log files, I usually just use the head and tail utilities to view sections of them.

I just checked, there are over 4200 messages in the mail queue (went to WHM->Manage Mail queue). It appears they are all from the last 36 hours. This could be part of the problem...

4200 is alot,
Maybe you should consider migrating some clients or upgrading....
Now that I think about it a client of your could be spamming...you should check into that.

Yep. It's spamming. Now here's the question: How do I delete the 3500 spam emails without deleting the legitamite emails that are queued? Most of them are to .ru domains, so is there some command to delete *.ru from the outgoing server queue via a shell? The mailserver is exim.
Thanks!

The problem is the way Cpanel interfaces with Exim. I've been doing research on Cpanel to see if that's what we need for a new datacenter (we're scouting for) and the thread http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46621 tells all. I understand Cpanel is a dog in the worst definition of the word in terms of slowness, including mail problems. ...but I'm basing my quick review mainly on the cited thread.
