What do you guys think about this site?
http://www.datawholesalers.com/InternetSpecials.htm

They offer OC3 for only $37500. Offering many major cities too. Loop charges to apply, but I think the price is still pretty cheap... isn't it?

cheers,

Not necessarily, by the time you get done with the local loop charges that 35,000 will be 40,000 + (i've not priced a Oc3 before to get local loop but it'll add a good chunck)

But you can get those same pricings just about from level3.net quest and globix .

Acutally you could go with Cogent Communications (www.cogentco.com) and get 100 mbps line delivered as a cat 5 for $1000 a month. They will generally run the fiber facilities into your building as long as you're not 50 miles away. No installation cost either. I am actually looking at using their backbone for work to run Gigabit connections between office sites, to the internet, and onto our corporate backbone. They have a lot of venture capital from some very big names and have a great deal signed with Cisco. Their SLA is also very impressive.

But where are you? They offer their service in about 15 cities, and that's all. If they offered it near where I live, I would give some thought to using it for my personal use, and perhaps try to do some webhosting/ISP work on the side. (To support the cost.) It *is* cheaper than a T1, but it's still a bit pricy...

The other thing that bothered me was that they don't seem to allow you to resell their service without consent. I would have loved to have given my neighbors a wireless 11 Mbps link to this for a small fee... It would probably be pretty profitable, too.

Just looked at the Cogent website... that Cat 5 100Mbps line looks *really* appealing. Too bad Las Vegas isn't on their network map. :(

It's fiber-optic, not Cat 5. At least, that's what I thought... But still, it *does* look very appealing.

I think the price is 3,000/month if you do any type of reselling on the line. Look at the price on the left side on this page:
http://www.cogentco.com/Access/wholesale.html

It is available in my area so I might call them...

Their network is FIBER but they deliver you the connection on a CAT 5 cable. They installed Level 3 switches in the rack and they basically convert the FX connection into a RJ-45 unless you get a gig connection and want it as fiber. I am actually looking at getting a GIG connection to five of my sites with them. $50k a month for 5 sites at 1 Gbps each is a hell of a deal. They use Cisco equipment as well...

I wish I could get high-bandwidth anything at my house....

I hear ya man. Cable sure beats dial up but having a 100 mbit connection to the house would be pretty cool.
