View Full Version : PHPWEBHOSTING!!!!!!!
hostmaster2k 01-12-2001, 12:34 PM It's the best!
They offer the best features for a really low price.
Their support is really great!
If you are looking for a host with LOTS of features and you don't want to pay that much, try phpwebhosting.
I have an account with them and I'm going to get another one soon.
-Edward- 01-12-2001, 12:40 PM Not that i'm doubting you or anything but whats your website address?
etLux 01-12-2001, 04:30 PM Oh goody! I'm going to run right over and sign up, based solely on this post!!!
mybiz 01-12-2001, 08:49 PM I am going to sell my business and just host all my accounts over there!
Thank You thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!
sorry, I get soo excited sometimes. :-)
etLux 01-13-2001, 12:38 AM I have decided to go even further!
I am naming my next newborn goat after this site.
And -- I am sending them all the fermented goat milk I have hoarded for my retirement!
etLux 01-13-2001, 12:56 AM Yes, but one may ask... who wants a rocky webhost?
I have enough problems with the ones that work.
hostmaster2k 01-14-2001, 11:54 AM this post wasn't meant for people who actually own a hosting company.
Just for people who need a hosting account...
no need to be rude
projo 01-14-2001, 12:14 PM They may be bad but arn't they good at it!
We may even say they give being bad a good name.
Hi
Gary
(Obviously I am still working on my paper)
lauryn 01-15-2001, 02:59 AM that's weird...i posted in a few message boards asking for host site suggestions and a lot recommended phpwebhosting and addr. Others recommended hostyard, infinethosting, doteasy, hostrocket, your-site, hostrocket, etc.
Most popular among the teen domains are phphosting and addr.
I don't know if I should put the links to these boards but anyway, there were around 4 people I personally know online that use phpwebhosting . Out of the 4, two are quite happy with them but the other two weren't. The reasons for not being satisfied was poor support and a slow server . But the slow server was only for this one site . The other 3 sites were doing fine with the speed. So I don't know. I think they really have a lot of customers .

Lauryn, I am sure they do. What I think sparked this is the spam-ish *sounding* post (which I am most certain it *isn't* spam, -just is worded like it).
The poster didn't really give much to go on. If they had listed their URL and made it sound less like a t.v. infomercial, it would have been better received.
One of their sales reps, Karen, has come to the boards and mentioned they had problems and are trying to improve upon them by offering better support and more reasonable features.
I'm not going to pick apart Karen's post, but there were something s she mentioned that really didn't make sense. The important thing is that they seem to realize there were problems and hopefully those problems are being addressed.
phpwebhosting.com 01-21-2001, 06:10 PM I would like to say that the first post above was NOT posted by Karen or anyone on our staff and we had nothing to do with it (we do offer our thanks to the person who posted it - assuming it was not an attempt to "frame" us for spamming - yes I'm paranoid :)
I do not know what else to say other than that it would be a pretty dumb move as
1.) Karen has spent a decent amount of time on these boards trying to fix old problems/perceptions
and
2.) if it was spam, it would have a been a poor job of it. Most obvious spam is ridiculed pretty quick on this message board. The last thing we want is to be accused of spamming. We try our best to lay low and only respond when our service is spoken of directly.
Someone mentioned that some of our previous posts did not make full sense. From now on myself or another technical person will try to respond so that nothing is lost in the translation from us to Karen.
One of the previous posts mentioned that they had two friends that were happy with our service and one who wasn't.
Speaking frankly on the current state of things my guess is probably that the one who is unhappy is on a older server.
As of January we are now restricting all servers to 125 users. Most of the machines from (guessing) November onward are close to this number but some of the older ones have more than this and are slower at peak times. Please note that the vast majority of our customers have not complained at all about speed issues but some users with a lot of cgi have. It may sound like bullsh*t but we DO try to listen to what customers want and try to change our policies (our recent change in diskspace policy is due 90% to comments people made through webhostingtalk.com).
We are going to split any server that has too many users under our new policy but this takes time. We do try to make sure that anyone with specific complaints is moved right away (please post a message in your control panel if you want moved right away).
Please do feel free to contact us if you have any questions. After a lot of post-mortem analysis of past failures we know that trying to please 100% of the people all the time is a sure way to drive oneself crazy (some people will never be happy or simply need a level of support that no host can provide) but we do try our best. Note: I do not mean to aim this at anyone specific who has posted a complaint about us. What I'm trying to say is that we do care about the perception that people have of our company. If you have comments, complaints, etc. please mail us (please use your control panel if you are a customer - this allows much better tracking of your problem).
Sincerely,
Jack

Hey Jack,
Yeah from what you guys have posted it sounds like there are things happening o'er there (for the better). Really, as much as everyone love to harp on the past, the thng that is more important (at this point) is that something is being done to correct any problems you guys had.
I don't know if this is happening or not, but I hope that everyone (at least) recognizes any efforts you guys make towards providing better service for your customers.
Like I said, I don't think it was shameless promotion, just badly worded and the failure to post URL's gets everyone going (understandably).
Ohhh, and what I meant by the confusing posts, was that Karen mentioned something about 'unmetered' being nothing at all like 'unlimited' (not sure the majority of the members here agree with that). She then went on to say that any host that advertises 'unlimited anything' is lying, and I just found it curious as to why someone would say that when (if you scan your site) the word appears a few times. *wink* I'll assume she didn't mean you guys are lying, but I found it a bit humorous (*elbows Jack in the ribs*).
Although I don't agree with everything on the site, this gave me a good grin, "second, ask you to leave (and by "ask", we mean "require")." Heh, yes...
CRego3D 01-21-2001, 09:35 PM still .. what's the URL ?
url of phpwebhosting? http://www.phpwebhosting.com
yeah.....i agree.
phpwebhosting is very slow.
and the older server is not the good reason.
if u know that the older server is slow why don't you move the customer's sites to the new server and your ASAP seems like 1 year.
btw, lauryn, u asked for a cheap host, right?
and phpwebhosting is a kind of cheap host
macromedia 01-28-2001, 02:29 PM Hello, I am hosting at phpwebhosting.com and I'd like to say that I am happy over there. Mu URL is madtvcentral.com.
They're very cheap for what they offer. In all the time I was with them my site was down for two days. When my site was down for all of Thanksgiving day I posted at this board saying that I was having probelms with them. They e-mailed me recently and said that they realized that there was a problem and that they were upgrading their system and were willing to move me to a new server right away. I said that I was OK since I had not experienced any downtimes since Thanksgiving and I have still not had any downtimes.
The only problem is that their support is somewhat slow. They always respond but sometimes it takes a while. But, it doesn't bother me to much and I am willing to accept this problem (although I can't be sure that this is still a problem since I haven't used support in a while) because they are so cheap for what they offer.
Just my 2 cents...
indigochild 05-29-2001, 12:11 PM I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to choosing webhosts and when I came across phpwebhosting.com I decided to sign up.
I've been with them for a bit over a month now and I'm pretty happy with the service. I use a dial-up 56K modem connection here in Sydney and the connection seems consistently pretty fast to me. I haven't noticed any server downtimes so far.
Basically they offered me all the features that I wanted especially "unlimited" (to a reasonable extent) MySQL databases and webspace. Tech support problems and queries I had were answered courteously within 1-2 days, often less -- for an emergency it would not be quick enough but then again if my hosting needs were that super critical I wouldn't be paying so little for the hosting anyway.
I'm your average uni student who likes to mess around with PHP and work on some web projects now and then. I don't run any business sites or other truly mission-critical stuff. For me, phpwebhosting.com is all I need. I'm happy with it. That is not to say phpwebhosting.com can't do hosting for e-commerce, just that personally I would probably shop around for something more expensive and beefy if I wanted to do business on the web.
my hosted site: http://www.secretwell.org
(it's in development so there's not that much content right now)
KingsTalk 10-23-2001, 07:31 AM :) I host my site (http://kingstalk.com) with phpwebhosting.com. It is a pretty large site, and is almost 100% cgi based, so it's probably one of those sites that the hosts hate.
The staff at phpwebhosting have always been pretty responsive to my inquiries. The last month or so, I've been having a serious latency issue, and this hasn't been cleared up, but I've been assured that the staff is looking at the problem for me.
The bottomline - If you don't have a lot to spend on hosting this is not a bad host. It's not perfect, but you could do a lot worse.
skylab 10-28-2001, 06:31 AM i'll bring this up again, i am a user of phpwebhosting, and have been for around 7 months. their speed and performance have been wonderful, and their support staff has gone above and beyond the call of duty for the amount i spend on hosting(thanks greg).
although, my site was/is too large a strain on phpweb(30+gb a month), they have worked with me for months to keep my site up and performing at top notch(even though i was blowing their bandwidth policy away). even then, i was told by phpsupport that they RECOMMEND i move to a dedicated server for proper performance, HOWEVER, they would work on having my site performance still be acceptable if i were to stay with them. massive points in my book.
for smaller personal or mid-size hosting needs, i completely recommend phpweb(not that my word carries much weight) and will continue to do so, even though i will soon no longer be hosted by the company. without a doubt their prices cannot be beat.
i've been hosted by phpwebhosting since june, 2000. my domain is not huge but still averaged 10 gb transfer and had over 30 millions hits in the past year. http://regretless.com
the only time i attempted to move was when hostrocket first came out and there was a trend for signing up. i was thrilled the fact they allowed total control on mysql database and had a more detailed cp. but as soon as i see the limitation of web space and fact i already had over that amount on my space at phpwebhosting, i changed my mind.
no one can beat the fact phpwebhosting is giving away quality stuff for a cheap price. my only complaint is i wish the tech support could be faster.. but hey i learned a lot on my own due the slow response sometime LOL
phpjames 11-05-2001, 02:23 AM Hmmm thats kinda funny because I had a bad experience with them. I was a phpwebhosting customer for a long while and they had problems responding to my email tickets promptly. One ticket took about 3 days to fix or answer a question.
Also the main reason I changed from them is because the servers are super slow sometimes only allowing like 4k uploads.
I was with the company when they had a major issue with a hard drive crashing and they lost all my data. That is not a problem because I am a responsible customer and backup data on my own but still. Possibly cheap hardware?
yeah i suffered from that hardware failure too. my domain was down for four days. fortunately they recovered most of my data. it really pissed me off tho when i emailed for my data problem, i received a email from one of the ppl saying it's not their responsible to backup my data and yet they lost it. i did get that month free tho. that's one of the reason i stuck with them. i was too lazy to move too. but for its price, i still think it's worth it. after all i still can't find a better place with the same price.
