webhostbeginner 12-05-2005, 10:47 AM I have a Dedicated server for personal use (hosted 2 or 3 of my sites)
What's your suggestion for a secure and free which that have a good interface control panel ?
Thank you
datums 12-05-2005, 11:08 AM Take a look at http://www.webmin.com
What is Webmin?
Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix. Using any browser that supports tables and forms (and Java for the File Manager module), you can setup user accounts, Apache, DNS, file sharing and so on.

When I last used webmin it looked a little lacking when it came to webhosting specifics (though that was some time ago and much may have changed), but for your "2 or 3 personal sites" should be perfectly addiquate.
VHCS looks promising: http://www.vhcs.net/new/ - I keep meaning to give it a go on one of my "personal" servers.
I've also heared good things said about GNU Hosting Helper (http://www.hostingsoftware.net/) too, but again I've not tried it myself as yet.
bigdeal 12-05-2005, 02:46 PM You could try
Webmin - http://www.webmin.com
ASM - http://www.acctmgr.com (Linux)
Web.CP - http://webcp.can-host.com(Linux)
Ababa - http://www.yupapa.com(Linux)
NxPanel - http://www.nxpanel.net(Windows)
Goldwing 12-05-2005, 03:28 PM http://www.zervex.com/ free if you dont need customer panels ( lite version)
Patrick 12-06-2005, 01:02 PM I think aside from Webmin, Web.CP has to be the best free control panel.
Correct URL: http://www.web-cp.net/
ThinkSupport 12-06-2005, 01:51 PM I would recommend VHCS if you are really looking for a free one.
Check out its online demo at :

webhostbeginner 12-08-2005, 08:50 AM Thanks for suggestions,
I choose VHCS finally :)
But How can I install VHCS on Fedora Core 2 ?
I found a document in this address:
http://vhcs.net/new/modules/phpwiki/index.php/Installation%20Fedora%20Core%203%20%28en%29
this document explained how I can install it on Fedora Core 3 ! but my OS is Fedora Core 2 .
Thanks

I would guess that the process would be practically identical.
You'd probably be better asking that question in their forum if they have one, as there will be a greater propertion of people with experience of installing it there than here.
Jaffery 12-10-2005, 03:24 AM well.. there is another cubepanel, its free for 30 domains and for that it is really great ..
My second choice is VHCS but its installation is tricky but if you are on Ubuntu then it can also install by simple isntallation script found at their forum..
firedrone 12-10-2005, 03:47 AM plesk is free, for one domain and one username if that helps at all, other than that, its pay
brian73 01-11-2006, 06:23 PM My limited understanding of Webmin is that it is a user interface to make it easier to manage the server and it simply modifies standard files that could be edited manually. This would be unlike Ensim, for example, where everything is done through chroot() and is more complicated.
If my undertstanding of how Webmin works, are there any other free control panels being suggested here that work the same way?
gbjbaanb 01-12-2006, 12:39 PM You're right, Webmin isn't for webserver hosting. Its provides a web GUI for managing a server. There is an Apache module so you can tinker with the Apache confguration, but there is no 'set up new website domain' button, no single 'add user' that will add an email user, ftp user, etc etc. Webmin is fantastic though, and I think is a very good complement to a control panel.
there is VirtualMin which does offer these shotcuts, but I dislike it as it creates a new unix user for each web user (as opposed to a virtual user in the email, ftp, etc services).
Other free CPs. ISPConfig. Drzes (commercial, but free for 1 server and a limited # of domains IIRC).
None of the free ones has an easy to use installer that I've found, but I do run 64-bit Centos so I'm a little cutting edge there :)
jtowne 01-12-2006, 03:10 PM You all for got about Bluequartz. I would get the latest ISO from nuonce.net/bluequartz.php in about 15 min. you can have the hole thing installed and ready to host. Boot from the CD and choose your configuration.
