I have a client who provides search engine submission services. Now I received an abuse report, and the person who sent the report wants me to take down the site of my client because the client sent unsolicited mails (NOT e-mails) with bills and offers. As this has nothing to do with the server, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do...

What would you suggest?

While what your client did may not be the most honerable nothing wrong was done on your servers so you have no responsibility in this matter.

Tell them to call the electric company and ask them to shut off his lights. Or maybe the post office to ask them to stop acting as an open relay.
