I'm new web page hosting, though I've been designing them for a while. So far, I've only used crappy personal hosts like angelfire... Well, I'm planning on getting my own host, but I don't quite get how sponsoring works when you have your own host. On angelfire, your site is given a banner at the top of the page. Where are some places I could get such a banner (places that would sponsor me)? Don't look at me like an idiot, I'm just a beginner... :bawling: One more thing. If you're sponsored, do they pay you directly or your host? How??

:D Thanks!

hi
it works in several ways,
1 - you pay your host and dont use any sponsorship, hence shouldering the cost yourself

2 - you convince your host your site attracts enough traffic for it to be worth their while to place their own banner on your site in return for free \ cut price hosting

3 - you pay for your hosting but join an ad agency and get paid per hit \ per click \ per buy

4 - you pay for your hosting and setup individual sponsorship details with companies in return for money, either a set amount or based on hits.

whoever sponsors you should present you with a banner in a standard size and request its placement in a reasonable place, eg top of page , top and bottom , side bar etc.

what is your site going to be about? how much traffic does it get \ do you anticipate it will get?.

best wishes

I'm making a GameCube site (a video game system). I'm not sure how many hits I will get, but my forums currently get about 2,000 hits a day...

I think those type of things are hit or miss as far as getting its. But if your getting 2k hits on your forums sounds like your off to a good start.. Would you mind posting your url?

You can also PM me with it if you would like..

ditto on the sentiments regarding the number of hits, sound like you have a good userbase. however your forum could stress a server depending on the software used for it. be sure you take into account any copyright issues regarding the site, both for your own protection and your hosts. also could i have the url for your forums \ site thanks.

you could always try posting a request for sponsored hosting in the requests forum. if you could predict the amount of space and bandwidth you require and the number of hits it would be a help. also will you be hosting the forum on this space?
