Ouch
sbrad 04-24-2002, 12:41 PM Sorry, but they're not your *only* local competition. We've had several customers from Jasper. And I know Blizzard in Ellijay sucks quite a bit of business from there, too.

yeah Blizzard and Radio Shack are just down the street from me they both do alot of hosting but considering I'm about 8 times bigger than them they arn't really a threat, I just mind my own business and pickup all of there unhappy customers and make fun of them from time to time :)
okihost 04-24-2002, 01:01 PM  Looks like some kid at the local Jr High School got ahold of the teachers copy of Frontpage 93. Anyway you are the competition? What do you sell? What is the point of this post? I am not trying to be rude I am just lost..
okihost 04-24-2002, 01:04 PM Also Radio Shack does hosting?
I didn't know they did either.
Anyways, I wouldn't be so overconfident  At anytime some company that does what you do (Hosting?) could come in there and take over all the business.

I would rather no site than that site.. Wow radio shack is even trying to get a peice of the market huh? Well we all know what happend to Dell and the rest of the crew when they attempted this. I did go to Georgia once with the family and yeah I guess it did kinda well suck.. So did the city out there.. Cant wait to move to FLA next year I am about fed up with these cold NE winters.. Well best of luck on your venture.
sbrad 04-24-2002, 01:22 PM That RS used to do dial-up support for ETC, too. They were into everything.
I've got to totally disagree with the part about North GA sucking. Dude, I've lived lots of places, and keep coming back here.
I guess it all depends on how you look at things. I wouldn't want to raise my family anywhere else.

yep they sure did, the friend of mine that worked there answered the phone most of the time. The other thing he told me was that his boss used the dumbest usernames and passwords over there, usernames like "rs1" and the pass "tech1" not hard to guess and you had access to the DNS server. His boss wouldn't change them he said no one woulds guess those....I guess thats why RS doesn't do support anymore.
N. Georgia to me is too far from the "big city" Ellijay is tourest hell, I moved here back in 95 I think with my parents. This place was nice till I was stuck here. Their isn't much to do around here other than drive around town and go to wal-mart, I'm thinking that wal-mart is what gave Ellijay the dot on the map in the first place :D
sbrad 04-24-2002, 01:46 PM We have a computer shop in McCaysville (just a bit north of Blue Ridge) and a bunch of us get together on Friday nights for a little network gaming. You should come up and hang out.
Sainthax 04-24-2002, 01:57 PM Thanks for the invite, I'll have to come meet up with you guys sometime :)

You sure it's 256kbps adsl? It loads faster than what I would expect out of 256kbps line.
cheers,
Sainthax 04-24-2002, 05:48 PM yeah 99% sure it's still 256k, our DSL in this area runs well.....when it runs hehe

Well:
"All bandwidth is "symmetrical" as well, unlike DSL"
Grrr, they mean ADSL. I don't know these people, but I always hate it when I see people claim they're are certified this and certified that and they're rolling out this kickass broadband network and they don't even know what DSL stands for :(

Where is your site?
Tetraboy 04-25-2002, 11:30 AM Carpets cheap up here.
Webdude 04-25-2002, 01:54 PM I never knock other hosts, though I may knock things that are common falsities in the industry, such as "unlimited". Outright knocking of competitors can look unprofessional, and make you look bad for doing so. Now if someone "asks" you for your opinion on a competitor of yours, then giving a limited response makes you look good.

Well my current/old site is no more I'm in the process of getting out of my current computer business and moving on to just hosting and co/lo, the site was more or less just a database driven site writen in php and mysql. It was nothing special to be quit honest, but I didn't clame to be cert'd in everything either nor did I clam to have a 2Gbps sat link. People like that ruin the business for the stores/hosts that do it right. The funny part to that is I had a customer that wanted to move his site over to me because his current local host/designer took weeks at a time just to change a phone number on the main page of the site. So he asks me for a quote on moving his site and me redesigning it to give it a new look, well I didn't have anything to do that week so I told him $100 for everything, well he goes back to his other host and they promise him the world bla bla bla and he calls me and says he's just gonna stick with them because they are going to redo my site for free well 7 months later the site hasn't changed and the phone number is still the same
My new site will be viewable by June 1st if all goes ok I'm still waiting on my trademarks to go through. My attorney is going over and checking my TOS.
