View Full Version : PHP50 Free Hosting
PHP50 04-24-2002, 04:19 AM PHP50 free hosting has now been up for a couple of weeks, and we decided to tell everyone here about it. We strive to be one of the best free hosts out there, and we will get back to any queries within 48 hours 99% of the time, but we aim for a 24 hour response. We offer
50 Megabytes of Space
Unmetered Data Transfer
FTP access (coming soon!)
SSI + PHP+CGI
Single PopUnder Ad
Web Board
As you can see we offer a lot of features for our users, and we are planning on staying around for a long long time. And as a special offer, the first 10 people to sign up and PM me at our forums with their account name, will get 75MB of space instead of the usual fifty.
So to recap, you get 50MB of space (the first ten to PM me get 75MB), PHP+CGI+SSI, FTP Soon, One Popunder, and Unmetered Transfer.
By the way my username on PHP50's forums is Moonman, so PM Moonman to get the extra space.
I will post here when the offer is over.

May I ask, what induced you to start this kind of site?
PHP50 04-24-2002, 10:30 PM Well you must know what it is like trying to find free hosting, as i do. I used to be looking for a free host that offered everything i needed, but i didn't find any, or they all comited suicide by offering too much stuff with no ads. So i thought why not open a host that everyone could enjoy and benifit from including myself, so I did. I really did not know what to offer, but i eventually decided on what you see at PHP50 now. And that was how PHP50 was born, but the main reason why it was born was to provide a great service at a great price (free).
And in case you are interested, in the 59 days the server has been up, we have only had 3 minutes of downtime.
privatebox 04-25-2002, 02:11 AM Is the idea that the venture be profitable or have you done this for purely altruistic reasons?
What I a trying to get at is whether there are any commercial possibilities for this kind of venture?
PHP50 04-25-2002, 05:23 AM For the first few months we expect to not be running at a profit, but once word gets around and our user base grows, then we are expecting to break even, maybe even make a profit. So in the long run we expect to be profitable.
Are you planning on opening up a host, cause if you are PM me and i will try to help you out whenever you need it.
privatebox 04-25-2002, 05:33 AM I am not planning to open this kind of hosting site, I am just interested in the fundemental rationale behind this kind of business model.
What makes you think that you can succeed in this whereas others like www.f2s.com, etc had to throw in the towel?
PB
PHP50 04-25-2002, 09:19 AM Well first things first, there are only 4 upgrades left. Now in answering to your question, we feel that unlike F2S, there are good reasons to upgrade to our paid hosting, as there are more features, more space, more transfer, and so on. The only real benifit you got of going to F2S's paid hosting was for domain hosting and no ads, and for the price they were selling that for, it was not worth doing. With our paid hosting we will have domain hosting, MySQL, pop email, and so on, so it will be worth the upgrade. Another thing is that our paid hosting will be very cheap with $99 a year ($8.25 a month) getting you something like 500MB space and 50GB Transfer, which we think is very reasonable. So that is how we think we will survive, but even if we have to run it at a loss for 2.5 years, just so we start to get profitable, we will. I hope that incourages you to trust and use our services.
privatebox 04-25-2002, 01:34 PM May I comment on the design of the site?
PHP50 04-25-2002, 06:29 PM Go ahead, i didn't open a business to not get feedback.
PHP50 04-25-2002, 06:30 PM Ohh yeah the offer is over now as well.
