View Full Version : Multi-user (not quite reseller) hosting?
Tyrdium 11-28-2005, 06:27 PM Hi!
I'm looking to move away from VARHosting, since it's been fairly slow and unreliable for the past couple months or so.
I'm not quite looking for a reseller account, but more of a multi-user account; I host and help manage a couple of sites for other people, but it's free and invitation-only. Do you know of any hosting companies that would be good?
Here are my estimated requirements, although I certainly wouldn't mind extra:
Storage: 250 MB
Bandwidth: 15 GB
MySQL databases: 5ish
Subdomains: 10ish
IMAP
Webmail
cPanel or other management tool
WHM or other management tool that allows me access to their accounts
Some DNS to point my domains at. Doesn't matter if it's personal or not.
Awstats and shared SSL would also be nice.
I'm looking for reasonably fast, reasonably reliable hosting, and would like to spend about $10 a month. Thank you in advance for your help!
GigabitONE 11-28-2005, 06:52 PM Is you want to have access to your customer account you will need yet least reseller grant so that you can access to it. If your customer do not need any control panel so you can use the add-on domain feature as now aday most of the host allow multi-domain hosted on a virtual account :)
Tyrdium 11-28-2005, 08:11 PM Hrm. That's a good idea, actually.
Right now I'm considering:
Dreamhost
Hostgator
Site5
And leaning heavily towards Site5. Any reccomendations? I'm wondering if Site5 allows for separate usernames/passwords to access each of the accounts. Maybe I'll just send them an email later.
I'm not a huge fan of the "sign up for a year at a time" model, but given that they seem to have very good reviews, I'm a bit more comfortable with it.
jimcpweb 11-28-2005, 09:12 PM well normally all reseller hosting should provide control panel for users under the reseller also .
Tyrdium 11-28-2005, 10:37 PM Sorry, clarification: I'm leaning towards Site5's MultiSite Express plan, which isn't a reseller plan.
Hrm... This thread should maybe be moved to the shared hosting section.
mripguru 11-28-2005, 10:39 PM Actually, I consider Site5's MultiSite packages (I have one) to be reseller accounts that you can't resell.
cartika-andrew 11-29-2005, 02:57 AM Have you considered an account at dotable.com? They specialize in multiple domain hosting I believe

Just to clarify - yes, Site5 MultiSite accounts allow for completely separate usernames, passwords and control panels for each of your accounts. If you have any additional questions or comments about what the plans do or don't include, do feel free to contact our sales team. :) I wish you the best of luck in your search for a new hosting company! Whoever you decide to go with, I hope everything works out for you and that your host not only meets, but exceeds your expectations.

I agree, they might be the perfect web host for you! :)

There is no perfect host. There's only the host that's perfect for you. :D
Tyrdium 12-01-2005, 01:03 AM Heh, Site5 does indeed appear to be perfect for me. Congratulations, you've got a new customer!
Oh, and thank you to everyone for your help!
Also, I wanted to mention that I love your website. It's fast, easy to use, looks nice, and most importantly, discloses a lot of information. The server uptime info is a great feature, and the engineering team blogs are neat. Plus, I like the suggestions section of the forum. The fact that you're developing a bunch of cool software is a good draw, too.
Should be fun! :)
