View Full Version : How should i use paypal???
sabian1982 11-28-2005, 09:18 AM Applogies if some feel this should be in the e-commerce section, im sure it will get moved if need be!!!
I have a purchase page on my website and ive decided the easiest and most secure method for me to process hosting client orders is through paypal.
The question i have is... what is the best way to implement by payment page using paypal? The purchase page itself will consist of the following:
1) 3 radio buttons (only one can be selected) so the buyer can select the main package they which to purchase.
2) Underneath this option is 3 addons which each have a quantity box, obviously the quantity if any that is added needs to be added to the cost of the selected main package.
3) Finally i need input boxes so that the name, desired username, and primary email address of the new client can be added.
Whats the easiest method? do i get this information submitted via a php mailer and then send them a payment request via email using paypal?
Do i, or more accurately can i include all this information onto one page using paypal (i dont want to use the popup shopping cart)
Or does anyone have any suggestions?
Jasonsite 11-28-2005, 11:29 AM I use the Subscription option or Buy Now and have a Next (Pay) button on the page after they submit. They must pay before their account is activated. But, the page where they click Next (Pay), it sends a email to them and us with details.
sabian1982 11-28-2005, 11:35 AM so ur saying put the extra information i need on the confirmation page that appears after they have paid for the main account and any addons? then have that emailed through seperately? obviously that could cause problems matching up who has paid and whos details have been submitted.
Jasonsite 11-28-2005, 11:45 AM Well, we are small and don't get a lot of requests for hosting. So, it works out really well.
Pretty much, it's a mailing script. The "Thank you page" explains that next they need to pay. If they don't pay, we don't activate. Or, if they want to pay by another method, then they can. We will match it up no problems.
whatever 11-28-2005, 04:16 PM I don't use a manual system, instead I use ModernBill, so I can't exactly comment but... why? Why not at least use a free or low cost billing system and save all this hassle?
Jasonsite 11-28-2005, 04:18 PM whatever,
Who are you refering to? If it's me, then...
We work with locals most of the time. So, the web form is rarely used. We may be getting a pre-built Control Panel (DirectAdmin) soon. As of now, we have our own custom built one.
Best Regards,
Jason

i have seen ModernBill suggested in the past... does that link in with paypal? can you suggest any free or low cost solutions? the reason why im looking at paypal is because there are no set up cost. It would be ideal to have a system that would also automatically issue invoices for payment as well, that way i wldnt have to keep track of every single transaction!!!
Suggestions?
privateroot 12-01-2005, 02:05 AM We used paypal at first, but it is kind of a pain for the customers unless you get their paid version... dont do their free stuff...
Thats just general advice to all, sorry if it didn't answer any questions...
madtomic 12-03-2005, 04:17 PM try WHMAutoPilot

Yes, it does intergrate with Paypal. Billing is the most important aspect of any business... and you don't want to spend money on it?
Neoboffin 12-03-2005, 06:25 PM I have not seen any free ones that satisfy me, so I tried ClientExec. I use ClientExec which is cheap, but best of all it's really easy to use. I have not tried ModernBill on my server, I never liked the look of it. I have seen the user interface, and I think it's cluttered. ClientExec is sleak and smooth.
But of course, it's up to you. I guess both billing panels are good to use as they are used by lots of people. It's just whichever one you like the most. Try out their demos.
sabian1982 12-04-2005, 08:34 AM ...and you don't want to spend money on it?
Initially nope, which i know that sounds rather bad but at the end of the day i feel that paypal which obviously has no set up costs would suit my business very well in the first instance. I can keep track of orders my self whilst spending money on more important issues such as the actual hosting im providing. Once i have established myself i can then look at a better payment system for my clients.
Quite simply start of small and grow!!!

But, the page where they click Next (Pay), it sends a email to them and us with details. Subscriptions are the best methods, if you have a lot of payments coming in...its a lot easier to manage all of the payments if they all go through automatically. In paypal you have the option to manage all of your subscriptions for an example a page list. :)

As i say PayPal is my number one choice however im having major problems intergrating PayPal in the way that i want!!! :S
As soon i can get paypal to work on my purchase page ill be getting close to finishing. Although there are a few other issues and additions needed for the main site though...
Have posted to various place to try and sort my paypal problem out but not had that much luck yet :/
