hi,

How imp really is the whois guard?

Should it really be imp to spend extra $5 and register it at namecheap?

I have recently purchase 2 domains at namecheap. And i need to register 4 more domains.

Neither yahoo or godaddy have whois protection for free the first year.

If whois protection really is that imp from getting SPAM then please kindly let me know because i have to take into account the cost $$$ for renewing whoisguard for all my domains in the future.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks
vj

I just got this saying from another forum I just have to share with everyone:

cheap things ain't good. Good things ain't cheap.

Too bad I didn't create that. :D

Anyway, getting the WHOIS guard is suggested if you want to lessen the chances
of your contact email address getting harvested for spam.

I have 6 whoisguard subscriptions at namecheap and I am very happy with them. I havent recieved any spam. Also another great thing that I love about namecheap is when you buy a whoisguard subscription, you cant put it on one domain and change it to another domain without having to buy a second one.

I have been happy with domains at Namecheap. You can't go wrong with them. And WHOIS GUARD is definitely a plus these days.

Also remember that the $2.99 bargain from Yahoo will turn into $9.95 at renewal. Plus it will be Yahoo reselling for MelbourneIT, with each telling you that the lousy service is the other ones fault. With Namecheap you can have stuff work well. Time is money too.
After the first year the Whoisguard won't be free, but it's inexpensive, and there are discounts for buying several units.
One thing to know about Whoisguard is that the units are provided, but it is up to you to manually apply them. Until you do your data is visible in the whois and vulnerable to harvesting.
When Whoisguard is applied, a Whoisguard email address will be generated and displayed in the whois. Email to that address will be forwarded. If the spammers harvest the displayed Whoisguard address you can go into your Namecheap account and change tell it to generate a new Whoisguard address. That will stop email to the previous address from being forwarded. You can select an option to have a new address generated periodically. That way as they get harvested by spammers they will be useless by the time th spam-run is set up and sent.

I just registered 10 domains with Yahoo! last week for 5 years. At US$2.99 per year that is equivalent to 2 years registration elsewhere. I intend to transfer these domains to Godaddy later as Yahoo! 's renewal fee is quite expensive.

I am addicted to registering new domains now. Yahoo! has a very user friendly control panel but when you are purchasing make sure that you key in the name of the registrant that you wanted as it cannot be changed later unlike Godaddy's control panel. They also do not have the ability to add the domain names into shopping cart before you check out to pay which is really troublesome. Anyway, US$2.99 is really cheap compared to US$35 per year for a domain name 5 years ago.

I paid for my domain 11$ to a romanian domain seller with all the taxes 1 month ago.
I hope the prices will go lower hiere too because I dont have a credit card accepted anywhere.

I do not know about this company but I have used yahoo domains recently for a few domains. I actually like the simplicity of the interface compared to godaddy

why use whois protection while you can use a p.o.box and unused email that you check from time to time?

you can always change the email address from time to time too like using random123@example.com random124@example.com and so on ;)
