I bought al.name not knowing how .name works. How could they have sold it to me ? I got confirmation of the sale, I can now log in and view my name server, but the park page they give me doesnt work ?

Ackoo-jt 11-22-2005, 10:45 PM not too sure the issue, there may be some propagation before it will be visible. Wait at least 72 hours before getting too worried. There is nothing wrong with a .name if thats what you wanted. It just doesn't have TLD recognition like many of the others. Dan L 11-22-2005, 10:51 PM .name is [almost] exactly the same as most other TLDs now. after it propogates it should work fine. Wullie 11-22-2005, 11:13 PM .name is [almost] exactly the same as most other TLDs now. after it propogates it should work fine. The format for a .Name is supposed to be firstname.surname.name and I think this is the problem that the OP is referring to. I don't know if this format is still enforced though. anon-e-mouse 11-23-2005, 02:43 AM Moved to Domain Name Forum. dmaven 11-23-2005, 09:24 AM They work just like a regular domain. It seems you bought the al.name which would be more desirable than al.smith.name patcherman 11-23-2005, 07:27 PM Does it take longer for the .name to update. The last couple of website names I registered ( .com ) I was given a park page immediately and could view it using a web browser very soon after registration. I bought the .name on Monday, shouldnt I be able to see the park page by now ? Wullie 11-23-2005, 07:30 PM Does it take longer for the .name to update. Contact your registrar because it seems that they have let you order an illegal syntax domain. Dan L 11-23-2005, 10:02 PM As of 2003 I think, they stopped having only firstname.lastname.name, and now you can register either one. You can only register lastname.name if no one owns a firstname under it. So it's pretty close to normal. WannaBaHost 11-23-2005, 10:17 PM You can't register two character .name's http://whois.name/cgi-bin/whoisweb.cgi?type=public&page=query&d=s&qt=domain&q=al.name "Not available for registration. Second level domain name must be longer than two characters" |
