View Full Version : WOW! Transfers complete in 25 hours!
Stan Marsh 11-22-2005, 05:15 AM I just transfered 2 of my domains from OpenSRS (EV1) to DirectI. All process took not more than 25 hours. I'm impressed, to say the least. Heck, all my transfers before that took not less than 5 days (quite often upto 7-8!).
Have something changed in transfer regulations since the last month?
dmaven 11-22-2005, 09:21 AM Was it an EPP based name? I have transferred EPP based names within the same day
Stan Marsh 11-22-2005, 09:27 AM One of them - yes (.org). One, however, was .com
gerolsteiner 11-22-2005, 04:52 PM Nope nothing has changed. You can thank the losing registrar for the speedy tranfer as they had almost everything to do with it.

Yes, Tucows/OpenSRS is VERY transfer-friendly. For those who are so used to waiting for at least 5 days because of the inaction of eNom, you now get a taste of how transfers could and SHOULD be done. ;)
Dave Zan 11-22-2005, 07:30 PM Now if only registrar transfers are as quick as DNS propagation. :D
But I wish...
hamiltonjo 11-22-2005, 07:40 PM I move name from namemonkey to godaddy in about 6 day. 25 hour I no believe

Neither namemonkey nor godaddy were involved in the transfer I wrote about. Losing registrar was OpenSRS, gaining registrar - DirectI. It took ~15 hours to receive all emails and another ~10 hours for domains to appear in my DirectI account. 25 hours total.
gerolsteiner 11-22-2005, 09:15 PM Most registrars who wait the 5 days do so for security. It gives them a chance to NACK fraudulent transfers. Every registrar that has this policy has always processed a manual approval (after verfication) when I asked nicely.
dmaven 11-22-2005, 09:27 PM Yes, 5-6 days is normal for the losing registrar to handle their internal verification. In the case of EPP names I have noticed they are quicker to approve the transfer away
Bashar 12-14-2005, 06:04 PM seems some opensrs still using the old method
i remember i transfered many names for less than 12hrs before nov 12th rule took place

Nov. 12th rule??? <confused> What's that?
Bashar 12-14-2005, 07:23 PM http://www.icann.org/announcements/announcement-12nov04.htm
losing registrar doesn't sent an approval notice only the gaining registrar and within 5 days the domain gets transfered if its not locked without the losing registrar doing anything

Sure, I was aware of this, but somehow I thought that were speaking about November 2005...
fewcoin 12-14-2005, 07:30 PM My fastest transfer was 15 minutes. However it was from Wildwest to Wildwest.

It's called 'push' and usually doesn't take even 15 minutes. Couple of seconds, perhaps... ;)

It was from a Wildwest reseller to Bluerazor. Had to fill out the typical approve/deny emails, so I assumed it was a transfer.

Bashar 12-16-2005, 07:10 PM wow 15mins, was that before the transfer policy by ICANN or after?
fewcoin 12-16-2005, 07:44 PM Hi Bashar,
It was a couple weeks ago. As soon as I accepted the transfer at the losing registrar (Wildwest reseller) and went back to check my email, a email had already come from Bluerazor saying, "transfer completed".

could be because both owned by the same company (godaddy) happened that fast.
