View Full Version : Namecheap VS Godaddy
Sir_Shunt 11-21-2005, 01:02 PM The great thing about paypal for me is, you don't actually need a credit card, I can use a banktransfer to directly send money from my bank account to my paypal account (all done through the internet).
Now I tried to register a domain name at Godaddy.com after I added fund to my paypal account. Simply STILL only allowed me to use the service by adding Credit Card options to my account.
Now, this really pissed me off. So I decided to try out namecheap (heard good things about them, and they're a bit cheaper anyways).
This went smooth and easy, simply added $8.88 to my namecheap account and seconds later the domain was mine.
Not only was this the only option I had (considering I wanted to use either system):
- Namecheap.com didn't bombard me with adds for more services
- They were a bit cheaper
- They offer free extra services like a WHOISguard and some other things.
- The registration was a lot easier to overlook and a lot faster.
My advice: go with Namecheap, esspecially when you don't have a credit card.
WebArtist 11-21-2005, 01:54 PM I second this.
Namecheap deserves my positive feedback. They are cheaper, no ads, very simple to use. GoDaddy is good, but I hated their ads in every process.

HamiltonJo,
Can you please stop with the bashing already. The only reason you log into WHT is to search out posts about our company and continually bash us http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?searchid=117018 .
We've already attempted to find out your issue and help you with it here http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=455211 but you refused my direct offer to investigate it or even identify the exact issue you experienced other than to repeatedly call us "monkey's"
As for your comment above, our reputation speaks for itself:
http://namepros.com/registerindex.php?detail=20
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=namecheap
As you can see, there is no need to for us to send shills around to post on message boards.
Please keep your comments directly related to issues and stop making ridiculous accusations.
Scot @ SJIRadio 11-23-2005, 09:09 AM I am with GoDaddy and haven't had any problems at all. Although the ads are a bit excessive.... I would rather them use a ad-ware model for their service to generate revenue rather than run the risk of going out of business like so many other companies. I can't say anything about NameCheap, haven't used them.

sorry to affront you but I no beleive you. I tell my friend they say check bbb on namecheap. I see BBB rates namecheap F which is VERY BAD so I see this is the truth
F We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.

I say again stay away from namecheap
enetwork 11-25-2005, 10:45 AM If you're going to post something make sure you post the ENTIRE facts. This is from the BBB and our history over 3 years. As you can see, we've had 6 complaints with them in the span of three years. This while managing close to 400,000 domains for over 150,000 clients:

The only reason they give us an F rating is because we CHOOSE not to deal with them. Most of those complaints were from people who's accounts we shut down because of fraud and were attempting to blackmail us by threatening and filing complaints.
I think the links I provided tell the REAL facts about our company and the way we do business. Sorry to spoil your bashing party AGAIN hamiltonjo.
Disgruntled 11-25-2005, 03:18 PM I have found that Namecheap has worked well for me. My only reason for transferring some domains away from Namecheap was due to an annoyance with Enom on an issue that was not in any way the fault of Namecheap.
You can see from my profile that I do have a domain registered with Godaddy, and Godaddy works well for me, too.

siLentBASE 11-25-2005, 03:41 PM I used to use godaddy but now i'm a big namecheap fan. I haven't actually switched any of my domains over but all my new ones are on namecheap

It clearly states here http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business/CompanyReportPage_Expository.aspx?CompanyID=13216498
that the complaints are over a "36 month period"

Avolongold, that message means your account was either locked or placed on hold by our fraud department.
Unfortunately they will not be in until monday. If you pm your username I will take a look at it for you and get back to you beforehand.
EDIT: I apologize, I just noticed you provided your username in your post. I'll get back to you shortly.

VinaGal 11-27-2005, 02:47 AM It's a tough call between the 2 of them. I have domains with both of them and never had any major problems. There are pros & cons between the 2.
godaddy answers my emails, namecheap - never.
godaddy - cheap domains, namecheap - 7 pennies cheaper
godaddy - complicated & confusing control panel, namecheap - plain, simple & easy.
godaddy - reminds you when your domain ends, namecheap - doesn't !?
anyhow, i go with both ...just incase one of them goes for bankruptcy :D (what are the chances of that!!) lol

Can mod ban this guy? he post nothing but bash. at least put some fact behind bashing.
Cen Lee 11-27-2005, 06:47 AM Hi VinaGal
I think Namecheap does remind you when your domain is expiring. I have been getting quite a bit of emails from them recently on domains expiring and whois guards expiring.
I agree with your other points though. However, Namecheap does reply my emails but they are all related to billing issues :D
