So that's the question..
Is it worth trying to find a good domain register to re-sell for, and worring about getting paid, and transfer fees and all that? or is it better to just mark up a price and sell the service to your clients and then go register the name for them through your favorite register?
-Thanks

I'm an affiliate from a registrar company.
I recieved the first comissions but now they stop sending me the checks and they don't reply my emails enymore.
So, take your conclusions.

Not all affiliate programs are run by unscrupulous people. Don't condemn everyone for one bad experience.

There are inherent problems with just taking the money and then shopping around your favourite registrars, like what happens if during the time you are transacting that someone else registers the domain, and various other similar issues where you may not have a totally safe legal position..
You can start a reseller account with enom and have an enormous amount of control, including comprehensive records of your transactions, a way to receive money from clients without your own merchant account if required, and an interface which allows both you and the customers to manage the domain easily and in real time.
I think enom also have an affiliate program, but i'm not sure about the prices they charge for that... if you are a reseller, you can control the retail price..
There are also great reseller accounts available from other registrars, eg OpenSRS, and you don't have to worry in most cases about getting paid..
You can also brand your reseller account to suit.
Cheers..

yes, with enom, registration is instant, you dont have to worry about fraud and chargebacks, and you can set your own price.
The other company that offers a similar setup is Dotster, but they are a bit more expensive.

So with enom is there any set-up fee if you don't have an account with them?
and what is the lowest you could get started with them?
I currently am only hosting clients that I do other work for such as webdesign or as a third party for other design businesses.. so I only need to be able to put a couple names through to try it out first before I launch a full scale system on my website.

I'm with dotster, I like them so far :) Completely customizable. Free too with no setup fee.
What do you think about registrydomains.com?
I know they are enom resellers, but are they safe?

There is no set up fee.. but you would need to buy some domains to reach Enom reseller status..
Deposit credit of $495, domains will cost $8.95 [55 names]
Deposit credit for 500 names, $3975, $7.95
Deposit credit for 1000 names, $6950, $6.95
With OpenSRS, I think you can get out of it with less money up front as you only have to buy 25 domains at $10 each [$250]
Companies like BulkRegister and GoDaddy charge a fee which is not applied to any purchases, a kind of membership, and you don't need to prepurchase any domains.. so entry is cheap even though you waste the initial fee...
There are several other reseller options which some of our other friends here use, so maybe some one will post other deals.. or you could simply visit the registrars and check out their terms..
There are some enom resellers here at WHT who might offer you a reseller account under their own account without charging you for any prepurchases [not us, so this is not an advertisement]
Good luck..
