View Full Version : The reseller account that will not die....

Anyone else ever had this problem. I had a server with aitcom.net for years, I have tried to shut my account with them down since Jan this year, I have filled in 6 tickets asking my account to be deleted and still each month I get a bill. I just checked the server is still live. No domains on it but I can access it thru FTP. I have sent emails tried to call ( can't cancel an account over the phone only thru the ticket system).

Thank God I let the credit card I had them on exprie or they would still be charging me. They will not die.

Now I have tried to shut an account down with another company (who for now shall rename nameless in case they decide to do the right thing) and
2 tickets have disappeared and I am waiting to see if the 3rd one does to.
They did charge me for this month and I have asked for a refund.

What is it with these guys they will not let you cancel

Is it just me?

Hehe,

This sort of thing has happened to me as well. The only difference is that they company did stop billing me. It was about two years ago and I asked them to cancel my account - didn't need it anymore. They were very polite and cooperative and I was told the account would be cancelled. I transfered the DNS (I had sold the domain) and everything was great - didn't hear from them again. Anyway, about 6 months after leaving, I still had their server info in my FTP prog so I thought I would try it out just for kicks - and lo and behold it was still active! Gave me a chuckle. I haven't tried it sense, but it wouldn't surprise me if the account was still there.

I also tried to cancel my account after aitcom's price double in January. After 10 separate tickets and repeated escalation, being invoiced and charged (at one stage they charged me >USD$700 on this closed server), I have eventually got most of the money back.
I am awaiting an outcome from the BBB. Luckily the cc they had has expired. They need to seriously look into the way they do business.

I actually had a similar experience with a reseller company before purchasing my own web servers a few years ago. Keep in mind that as the consumer you have the power when it comes to your credit card. Simply keep copies of your emails, and contact your credit card company. They will do a chargeback, refunding your money, and the offending host will usually be penalized by hefty chargeback fees. After you do this, I bet you will not have a problem the next month :).

Good luck,

Sorry to hear about these cases guys. I am just wondering, these companies you mentioned have authorities to debit your credit cards (recurring) and they have full control of it. This is not a third party card processing, right?

Well, this is probably one disadvantage of buying from a host with its own merchant account.

In third party processing, you can easily contact the third party and ask for a refund and the third party will be contacting the host to settle it or if the host cannot resolve it, they will issue the refund and deduct it from the host's account.

At any rate, NOT ALL hosts do such a bad practice of billing credit cards if the clients has explicitly asked for cancellation. The most that you can probably get is a sort of a "bail out" fee for one month hosting. I dunno.

Just my opinion.

Even if the cards are charged, you should be able to call your credit card company and do a charge back. It makes a bad mark on you, but it should be done to get a refund . . .

How hard can it really be for these companies to close up the accounts? I know with us we close the account up on the server and in our billing software, that's all there is to it. We go through both, the servers and our billing, if they don't match we fix the problems . . .

I have had this problem with Liquidweb.com infact i still have it,I have sent maybe 40 - 50 tickets over the last few months, yet still my account with them is active :( And i get charged every month. This is a real problem for me because i cannot simply call the cc company because i do not own my own credit card.So i use my fathers to handle everything billing wise.It is a real problem and their should be a site where you could report hosts that do not cancel your subscriptions.

That is horrible. I can't believe these companies are stealing money from people.

Happenning to me also, with a hosting company that hasn't been mentioned here, and will not mention their name YET, just in case they do something about it.

After many technical problems, I have cancelled 6 of my 10 accounts. This company charges on a yearly advance basis, and one month before due, they are charging my cc account.

I put in the cancellation tickets and they answer that it will take 7-15 days to cancell, and 30 days for crediting my cc. They do tricks like renewing the remaining hosted accounts and have not yet been credited my cc.

I am not in the US, but have spoken to my bank today, and they said that they could claim the extra charges for me with no problem.

My problem here is that they are playing and making interest on all our cash, and should be illegal practice, from any way you see it, not to mention that some of us being ripped off this way, need that money bad to continue on our projects.

When, and if I start my fight to recuperate my cash, I will post their name all over, and also try to claim legally for some compensation, which I am sure we all deserve, for this fraudalent attitude.

They're (AIT) incredible.
I'm already having an issue at BBB against them for charging me nearly 900 USD for their mysql logfile - at the same time I tried to close my account with them. First, they charged me for another month (for their so-called contract, which goes by 6 months increments). Now, after two months, they're trying to charge me again, saying that they haven't received my fax (which I sent them at least four times).
I encourage everyone to file a complaint at BBB against AIT and/or the others. We should not let these crooks get away with their tricks.

from them last night.

That is now 6 months since I canceled my account with them and I have not paid. What is funny is if I was using the account it would have been shut down in 20 days after no payment. But now that I have canceled it 6 months later it is still active.

Can't wait to get the collection agnecy calls a year from now for all these back payments.

Geez these guys will not stop as I said I am glad they do not have an active credit card to charge against or I would be really cheezed off.

a few months ago i filed a complaint with the bbb.
so far nothing from ait.
they currently owe me about USD$200. the kept invoicing and charging well after i had cancelled and confirmed cancellation.

the Banks in au said they couldn't stop the transaction only the merchant could 8(

needless to say i was pleased when that cc was no longer valid.

not a happy chappy

how can they continue with so many unhappy (ex)customers?

I think if the amount they owe you is small enough (less than $2000 -- varies by state) you can take them to small claims court which is a pain in the ass for them because they have to come out to where the trial is. (Usually local to you). Getting served with a lawsuit usually gets someone's attention too. Plus, if they don't show up, they lose provided you can prove your claim. Search the web to find out more about the small claims court system in your state.

We are Aussie too..

What Credit Card did you have???

And next time dont talk to the bank itself call the credit card provider and tell them whats going on straight away they help you more than anyone can...

Even if they are in the states they would take care of it this is my experience with Visa when a Vendor over charges us then stole our servers we paid for.

Good luck everyone

After changing my CC account, they've been trying to charge me for three more months, saying that they've not received my cancellation fax (which I sent them 5 [five] times). Finally, they somehow managed to find one of them and announced my account closed.
Next week I received an email from their billing department, complaining that they're unable to charge my CC...
These guys are just unbelieveable.
