Hello, all, and thanks in advance for any and all assistance.
I am a college professor in Tokyo and am teaching an introductory computer course. In order to make the experience more "real" and fun for the students, I want to have the class get their own domain name and build a web site by themselves. In order to do this, I need a hosting service that can provide specific services at a low price (I'm paying out-of-pocket, and need to host 3 sites a year at least). These are my requirements:
20MB space or greater
1GB transfer
20 POP email accounts or more
Control Panel
Web-based email (some students have no web service at home)
Respectable uptime, not more than average tech problems
Would be nice but not necessary: CGI, PHP, SQL, Subdomains, Web Stats. I do not need a high-powered site, e-commerce options, or anything needed by high-end or business users. The domain will likely be tossed at the end of one year, but if the host is good, I will keep using them for a new site every four months.
Most importantly: I need to know the hosts are not scam artists and I will not have problems with billing or misuse of my credit card info.
Would prefer one of the low-priced hosts, Under $40 a year or $4 a month, and would be happy to pay the year's fees up front if I know the service will be there.
After doing a few days of scanning host review sites and discussion boards, I have thrown together a list of candidates; not knowing how legit the claims are, I'd appreciate any comments, even if only negative, on any or all of the hosts, or suggestions for other hosts:
Long4net / LongTin
ASGOO
HostNexus
InfoDoma
PearHost
Adovis
PowerHoster
Pheonice
Connecticut
AffordableHost
CompassionateWeb
Again, if you know any hosts which I haven't found but have what I need, any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Luis
