Hi all,

I only have the hosting experience with the shared account, which also means I don't know many about dedicated or co-location hosting.

After reading all the posts here about 4webspace, I still have many newbie questions and hope you can help me out.

1. If I order a server from 4webspace, can I host more than one domain on that server? If so, do I have to order more IPs for each domain? Or I just point the domains to some directories?

2. Can I add users to each domain seperately? like domainone.com/~abc, domaintwo.net/~abc? Does each account have their own ftp account?

3. If we can host more than one domain at one server, we can virtually have a hosting company, right? since you can add domains for other people. Since if I go with it, I will pay money and I can give space to my friends. So what they will have is to have a "shared" account as what I have with tera-byte now?

4. Current I have several domains hosted with tera-byte, bwelow10host, urgenthost, etc. I pay about $60 for the total. If I can host all of them on one server, with more storage and more bandwidth, $99 is a bery good bargain, isn't it?

5. One of my sites do have light adult contents and I have about 500 visitors per day and about less than 5000 page views per day. The others are just light sites. So, do you think I should upgrade to 128MB?

They are really newbie questions, right? (:0

Thanks for your help.

1. You can have up to 250 domains. You can put as many as you want on 1 IP.
2. You add a user to each site, although I beleive is a username is used in one site it can't be used in another.
3. Exactly
4. Best deal your gonna find. You can even sell the rest of the space to make the money back.
5. With a RaQ the more RAM the better.

Thanks Syanet for the quick reply!!!

I tried to put all the questions I remembered into one posting, but I still forgot to ask:

6. Does this offer comes with a control panel that people can easily add domains and users?

for ayanet's answer to my question 1 "You can put as many as you want on 1 IP", would someone tell me generally how this works? I just point the domains to some directoreis on the server? ...

Question 7 is about DNS. Most of my domains are foreign domains and I can change the DNS info easily. Does it require a lot of work to make domains working? (since I saw some posting here mentioned it)

8. Mail server. After I have the domain working, do I have to intall some mail server so that the email could be working? (another question derived from the reading of previous posts)

9. I saw something from 4webspace FAQ about foreign chracters. It said something like "since the server doesn't understand the characters, it couldn't display the text and images correctly" Is this correct? I do have Chinese sites, English sites and mixed ones. Is it a problem at all?

Thanks for the prompt replies. I followed this board for a long time for paid hosting but it's the first time I post here. (:-

Thanks!!!

My site is now running for some hours on the raq3 server and it rocks.
Its an semi-adult paysite with about 2.5k hits a day.
i have 128 MB and now in the peak hours it only uses about 35%.
CPU usage is low and everything goes smooth.
When coming from a shared server this is heaven.
And yes theres a control panel which easily lets you edit and create domains and stuff.

6. COmes with an extremely self explanatory control panel. RaQ's are meant for beginners and the control panel was built around them. Only a few clicks must be made to add/edit an account.
7. Simply use the control panel.
8. Prenstalled. Just type in the domain of the site you want mail on. A RaQ has capability for POP and SMTP without installing anything other the security patches.
9. Not a clue :).

Also, I notice 4webhosting has some charges for installing mySQL and PHP, around $250 or so. It's my understanding that with this plan we have complete control over the machine, so I could install those programs myself on the machine for nothing right?

Also, I find the hosting details on the site a bit light. What is the CPU speed included for their $99/month package?

Thanks for any help.

All RaQ3's have a 300Mhz processor. I beleive the RaQ4's have a 450mhz. You can easily install PHP and MySQL yourself. There's alot of threads about installing them somewhere in here.

I could be wrong becuase I don't use RAQ's but I have seen them in action from a partner. Doesn't the RAQ interface come with the tools to download/install the mods from the web?

Yeah it does. Just type in the URL and it auto installs in a few seconds.
