View Full Version : Which Deticated Plan? And can I do this?

I'm considering the following Deticated Plans:
RackShack Flagship Ensim (http://www.rackshack.net/flagshipmain.asp)
RackShack Compaq Ensim Package 1 (http://www.rackshack.net/specscompaq.asp)
WebReseller.net 1Ghz PIII (http://www.webreseller.net/orderpromo.htm)
TranXGlobal DedServer 5 (http://www.tranxactglobal.com/servers.html)

I'm looking to keep the costs down, thats why I'm leaning towards the first RackShack one. Is RedHat Linux 7.1 with ensim ok? 7.1 does not have Ext3 but is that a reason to stay away from this package?

Also, I am hoping to use this server to host about 80 low-traffic websites as well as run a CS server for my clan. Will this be ok? I will use the heapsize option with HLDS to restrict the amount of RAM hlds can use. Is there anything else I can do to optimize server resources for my webhosting customers and keep hlds at a low priority? Is it even possible to have a server run a CS server as well as 80 hosting accounts?

Thanks for all feedback,
Ben Hughes

Your choices there seem fine. If you can jump up a few brackets, then I would suggest a box from Dialtone. They have a $0.00 setup deal going at the moment.
as well as run a CS server for my clan.
That wouldn't be a Tribes clan would it?? :)

Whatever you do, wherever you go, try every host in the world but NEVER EVER RACKSHACK!

Because nothing will ever beat their DEFECTIVE racks! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

You're going to be offered an OS Restore even before you put your sites online! - amd that's only the beginning!

Is that optix talking, because thats the exact same wording he kept using before, running around the forum trying to deficate on rackshack.

If you care about your business, I recommend avoiding RackShack. RackShack would be okay for a CS server and personal sites, if you're lucky enough not to get a defective server, but I wouldn't recommend them for hosting accounts. Most of the hosting companies that start out on RackShack and are serious about their business tend to move away from RackShack after a few months. That has to tell you something. Save yourself some time down the road and go with someone else. With the prices you have for web hosting, you should be able to afford better.

Toasty, or others, who would you recommend instead of Rackshack then? I want to get things rolling TODAY, but no one seems to have any servers left at these prices. I tried eserverz, tranxact, etc.. and no luck. Any other better providers around, or do I need to go with Rackshack even after hearing all of this bad info??

Pay a little more and take a server from focalhosting.com or ispclub.com or rackspace

IMHO, the server cost is less than 20% of the total budget if you are costing for overheads, admin, marketing etc.,

So even paying 150% will give you a lot of peace of mind and help in client-retention

Sorry guys this isn't optix. So, somebody had already said those words eh? Did not surprise me at all, only meant that what I said was true!

I just signed up with tranxactglobal the other day and am still waiting for my server which they promised today, Monday. I hope that I can be a personal witness to all the good things that have been written here about tranxactglobal. (please not another defective server!)

Still waiting... patiently... telling myself that this is all gonna be worth it...

IS THERE ANY REASON TO POST YOUR FEELINGS SO LARGE? PEOPLE GET THE POINT THAT RACKSHACK HAS UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS BUT THEY ALSO HAVE MANY, MANY,MANY TIMES MORE HAPPY CUSTOMERS. IN FUTURE DONT POST SO BIG BECAUSE AS I SUSPECT YOU READ NOW IT IS VERY ANNOYING AND RUINS THE FLOW OF THE THREAD.
