View Full Version : Webmail problems with plesk 2.5
gagsplus 04-21-2002, 06:17 PM I can't get my webmail to work on my site. I am not sure why it is not working.
<domain> NS s2. ezzi. net.
<domain> NS ns2. bestofhumor. com. (My nameserver)
ns. <domain> A XX.XXX.XXX. 90
webmail. <domain>. com. A XX.XXX.XXX. 90
<domain> com. A XX.XXX.XXX. 93
ftp. <domain> . com. CNAME <domain> . com.
mail. <domain> . com. CNAME <domain> . com.
www. <domain> . com. CNAME <domain> com.
<domain> . com. MX 10 <domain> . com.
XX.XXX.XXX. 93/24 PTR <domain> . com.
When I try to access the webmail fo the domain it just shows the index page. Do I need to have my other provider list webmail.<domain> in their dns?
Chicken 04-21-2002, 07:40 PM Well now, first I admit I haven't checked plesk forums, so I'll state that up front. I've also just stated using plesk, so I figure I'll screw it up a few times, heh. That said...
I thought I mucked up something with the webmail. As you described, it doesn't work, however, I do believe it didn't work before the 2.5 upgrade (in fact I can't recall off the top of my head if this server has been upgraded to 2.5 or not -have to check on that).
Webmail does work on the server's domain and maybe it will work on yours that way as well? I keep meaning to look at that, though it is one of those things that slips one's mind as I check email via the web ohhhh, about never.
gagsplus 04-22-2002, 12:19 AM This box is a brand new 2.5 install and it was not upgraded. My previous host did have 2.0 I looked at the settings in the dns and can't see any differences and I have checked from outside my network to see if it works or not.
I have posted a similar message in the plesk forum with no results yet either. I check my mail frequently while at my other job so I can answer questions or place orders for gag items that I need. I used to just do it through yahoo but I think they are going to be removing this option here soon.
ANy plesk junkies out there?
NexDog 04-22-2002, 02:41 AM What index page are you seeing?
There is an A record for it and webmail is checked in Preferences?
gagsplus 04-22-2002, 07:07 AM I see the domain's index page, the domain is email4fun.com if you go to http://webmail.email4fun.com you actually see the domain.
Off to do some more research
AussieHosts 04-22-2002, 07:45 AM You must've fixed it now, because IMP is showing.
Did this have anything to do with updating the catch-all email address at all?
Cheers
Gary
gagsplus 04-22-2002, 07:52 AM actually yes I do think that setting the mail to forward to a catch all address might have done it. I did check to see if qmail was working okay and then things just started to come around. The domain has been resolved for almost 5 days now here on my computer so I was sure it was not a DNS issue.
Glad you mentioned that it works now, because I couldn't get it to come up on my main pc, so open up laptop (Thanks Xerox Connect) and it shows up just fine.
Thanks guys
Shawn
AussieHosts 04-22-2002, 08:05 AM Darn it. I hadn't had a chance to test it yet, but was hoping they would have fixed this. It was a known problem in PSA 2.0, that if you update the catch-all address, Webmail flicks to off. Or more importantly, if a client does so...because they cannot turn it back on themself.
Time to update the Welcome email I think.
Cheers
Gary
gagsplus 04-22-2002, 08:25 AM Before when it was not working or at least what I thought it was not working, it was set to just bounce mail if it did not have a mailbox to go to.
So I set it to forward to a catch all (here you go spammers) and then changed the address it would go to and now it works.
Pop mail also seems to be working also. Has anyone updated their version of webmail, I noticed there are some new versions out. I haven't done it but this box is not in full scale use yet so I can still play with it.
Shawn
NexDog 04-22-2002, 10:33 AM Gary,
I haven't come across the bug that you describe and we have 6 Plesk boxes now. Haven't seen mention of it over at Plesk Forums either.
AussieHosts 04-22-2002, 11:25 AM Okay...it seems that it has been fixed in 2.5 according to:
http://forum.plesk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2738&highlight=webmail
I haven't checked it yet myself. Shawn's case is a little different in that he believes it started working after switching from bouncing undeliverable mail to catching it all.
Best I go and satisfy my curiosity. :)
Cheers
Gary
AussieHosts 04-22-2002, 11:37 AM Definitely seems to be fixed in 2.5. I tried as admin and site admin, changing and dropping the catch-all, but webmail remained on.
Cheers

NexDog 04-22-2002, 12:25 PM Gary,
Did you upgrade from 2.0 to 2.5 or did you just get a new box(es)? If you upgraded, did you do it yourself or was it the DC and if so, which DC?
AussieHosts 04-22-2002, 06:30 PM New box, new install of 2.5.
Cheers
Gary
