A great deal nonetheless =)
HostFresh 11-10-2005, 03:06 PM Yes, half of routes to UK goes through US, there's some european traffic going through Flagtel which gets good result, they'll be improved over time.
Thank you for your comment thought and hopefully one day UK ISP will have more peer with us and you'll consider us again. :)

It's not bad at all, consider the data goes all around the world!
Will you be able to post a traceroute or let us know which ISP you're using?

stevey 11-10-2005, 03:20 PM a few questions;
is there ability to upgrade to 20Mbit, 50mbit, 100mbit? if so what is the cost to upgrade to them?
are these unmanaged servers? if so how much would it be for them to be managed?
do you offer webmin?

Hi Stevey,
Yes, it's possible to upgrade to 20Mbits and 100Mbits, you can contact us directly for pricing as we do not usually offer them.
The above offers are unmanaged servers with monitoring service, for managed service depending on your needs, generally it goes for around $75/month with 4 hours of advanced support/on-site service and initial advanced setup.
Let me know how you think of our deals. ;)

Well, I'd just like to put in a good word here. I ordered five celeron's from these guys. (The $59 deal, 10Mbit) The servers were due on Friday and they got them to me fast, infact, they stayed up till 4am (Sat. morning..) to setup the configuration I had asked for (I needed some special stuff installed.). I've not completed setup (from my side, ofcourse..) for all five of my servers yet but two of them are already up and running and going strong. The hardware quality is excellent, and the people working at hostfresh are really nice, this includes everyone I've interacted with (sales and technical support team..).
I've experienced no down time so far and the network links are pretty good all around the world. All in all, I'm quite satisfied, I'll come back with a more detailed review once I've used them for a bit longer :].
athlonkmf 11-14-2005, 11:04 AM hmmm... still waiting for my server, hope to get when I'm back at home after work :)
I've asked (and paid) for a different install than centos (i want debian) so I wonder how that would work out..
I must say that I'm out of my budget again.
athlonkmf 11-14-2005, 01:14 PM I've also asked for a somewhat different partition scheme. Most companies I've been with, ignored that request (ev1servers the worst, only 1 partition...), I wonder if they will be able to configure it to my taste.

I've sent a email to you, got a little delay on your server. We'll have the partition scheme setup per your request from our support desk, I apologize for the little delay.

Currently, we're still working on getting Windows server, unless you can provide us the license, which a few people did. It's expected to be ready in about a week.
Thank you very much for the support guys, the sales went really well and we're currently catching up on setting up servers, thus we didn't update as quick as we did before on WHT. :)

boonchuan 11-15-2005, 04:36 PM Can I provide my own Windows server license and controlpanel license? What will be the cost then?
athlonkmf 11-15-2005, 05:25 PM I've taken the day to install and configure the server with the programs I needed (the partition is made as I wished :P )
I've quickly setupped a small file and let people test it out. Now uploading a big one to see if it's better speed. (upload is very slow for me...)
This is what my members speeded:
NY- USA
started at 120kb/s but quickly went up to 230kb/s
ASIA - Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur)
started about 40+kb/s average and went up to 50+kb/s almost till end....
Australia - around 32 kb/s took around 2:30 minutes to dl.
Sydney, Australia
Slow as expected
only got 60 - 70K's ps.
Europe - The Netherlands
Started as 700+, but quicly dropped to 200-230 kbps.
IL, USA
a good average speed at 160 kb/s
the speed was goin 180 kbs. it took me like 15 secs to dl =]
UK
120kbps
took about 20 - 30 seconds
From USA
Averaging around 170 kb/s. Took around 15-20 seconds to download.
120-150 here in Canada.
Europe- The Netherlands
+/- 70 kb/s
Transfer rate from 100-175 kb/sec
Total time about 1 mins.
location: germany!
200 - 220Kbs USA
Asia - Singapore
btw 230-235kbs
( Europe)Sweden
About 150kb/s
Europe- The Netherlands
300+ kb/s
Location: Canada
Speed: max is roughly 180KB/s
ASIA - Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur)
started about 30+kb/s and went up to 47.2kb/s till end
Talk about diverted speeds... I've now installed a graphing system. ANd let my members download so I can have an idea what the avg speed can be compared to the system load. I'll let you see after a day (so I have a full graph)
The server itself downloaded from the US with 100-150kb/s (debian packages)

I have some questions:
* Is it mean OS reinstall costs $25? If not, how much does OS re-install cost?
* Do you support FreeBSD 6.x or Slackware 10.x (or can install)?
* How much custom partition adjustment cost? Free? :D
* Is there any remote-reboot option (free or paid)?
* If there is no remote-reboot option, Are reboot requests free? :D And in how many hours is it be done?
* What is hardware replacement SLA?
* Is there any option to get any discount (or any discount for additional hardware - like one time setup fee discount for extra/upgrade RAM/HDD) if I don't want to get "Free DirectAdmin" option?
* Do you have support option on GTalk/MSN/AIM/ICQ? And in which hours?
Best regards.
PS: Sorry if I bore you with my endless questions :gone:
:trflag:
HostFresh 11-17-2005, 01:22 PM * Is it mean OS reinstall costs $25? If not, how much does OS re-install cost?
A: Yes, OS reinstall is $25/one-time
* Do you support FreeBSD 6.x or Slackware 10.x (or can install)?
A: We can install any OS other than CentOS for $25/one-time
* How much custom partition adjustment cost? Free? :D
A: Custom partition is free.
* Is there any remote-reboot option (free or paid)?
A: We only offer 24/7 phone call for reboots.
* If there is no remote-reboot option, Are reboot requests free? :D And in how many hours is it be done?
A: It'll be free, usually it take less than 3 minutes for us to reboot once you call us.
* What is hardware replacement SLA?
A: We'll replace it same day usually within 6 hours.
* Is there any option to get any discount (or any discount for additional hardware - like one time setup fee discount for extra/upgrade RAM/HDD) if I don't want to get "Free DirectAdmin" option?
A: No, there'll be no additional discount.
* Do you have support option on GTalk/MSN/AIM/ICQ? And in which hours?
A: General support is over our helpdesk at https://support.hostfresh.com
athlonkmf 11-20-2005, 08:28 AM Hmm... for some reason my server is suddenly unreachable, just when I was putting it on life.
I've submitted a support ticket and tried to call that tollfree number, but couldn't reach through.
That less than 3 minutes for a reboot is not true in this case then... Better make it 10 :) (it took 10 minutes to reboot)
stevey 11-20-2005, 10:06 AM im not happy at all, server has been down 24 hours now and am still waiting
visualfast 11-20-2005, 10:44 AM 24 hrs?

stevey 11-20-2005, 10:47 AM yes and still waiting and have had no reply from them since yesterday, not happy at all
HostFresh 11-20-2005, 11:13 AM Someone within our network has been hi-jacking other user's IP, we've contacted our network admin to indentify the problem and we'll come up with a permentant solution shortly.
HostFresh 11-20-2005, 11:21 AM Affected users, please contact us at our support desk, so we can work it out with you directly.
athlonkmf 11-21-2005, 12:11 PM is there a solution yet for that hijacking problem? My server is being rebooted constantly since I've put up a supportticket for that problem.
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. On all FIVE of my servers! This is really annoying. It's not rebooting anymore thankfully (up for the last 2 hours..) but now one more of them has gone down, and inaccessible for some reason. I can login to it from my other boxes with hostfresh, but I cannot get into it from any outside network. (I can't SSH from my own computer..)
I'm talking to support about this issue, constantly. Lets hope some solution comes up soon. They're telling me something is wrong with my network config now.. =/
bodhisattva 11-21-2005, 12:21 PM yeah, we have been experiencing the same problems. the network service was top notch up until yesterday. since than we've had a few long outtages.
currently my server there is not reachable.
i'm really not one to complain. problems do arise. i just do hope they get things sorted out soon.
Yeah, it keeps coming on and going off. They said they're getting some permanent fixes but it doesn't seem to have happened yet. I guess it's more annoying when you have five servers and they're all out of reach =P.
Update: All of them are now out of reach again..
athlonkmf 11-21-2005, 12:34 PM Yeah, I'm having the same problem.
So you get that too? And a OS-reinstall as a solution of course? I thought it was really my config-probs (weird, since I believe it was completely good)
OK... so I really need some good answers now...
athlonkmf 11-21-2005, 12:42 PM oh great, now my server is out or reach too...
I'm quite sure it's not a configuration problem. If they did a default CentOS install then there shouldn't be any problems at all.. Also, it's reassuring to know that I'm not the only customer having this problem..
He told me that there's something wrong with my network configuration and that I'd need an OS install. I thought that was quite outrageous. He said the network is logging my server off for some reason...so much for some help..
I'm sure they'll get to the bottom of this, and hopefully manage to fix it soon, my servers are all up again and this time they didn't reboot, they just became inaccessible. So that's some improvement =P.
Ofcourse, you have to remember you get what you pay for, and if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't true ;).
In any case, they've been excellent so far and some minor hiccups happen with all networks, I can easily forgive them for this since it's the first time something like this has happened..
athlonkmf 11-21-2005, 12:54 PM well, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, because cheap prices doesn't always mean bad service. But the standard "reinstall os"response is not really assuring.
I've just received a response now, they've changed something in my config.. have to find out what..
athlonkmf 11-21-2005, 01:01 PM it lasted... 5 minutes.... offline again...
luckily I've only used it as an image server at this moment to test things out, but still... It was meant as a replacement for another server, but this situation is not really assuring now. I think I'll keep my other server for another month, till these problems are fixed.
I can imagine them having some hiccups, because they of course threw in a couple of extra racks in a week time.
Yep, mine are offline again as well =/
athlonkmf 11-21-2005, 01:09 PM i don't understand why they get rebooted though... is someone sending reboot requests throughout the network or something....
I've put my other server back up as the imageserver now though.. this doesn't look good for my website. And to think i've paid more than 100 dollar extra for all custom installations and upgrades...
I must say though, their response is quite fast.
HostFresh 11-21-2005, 02:42 PM Hello everyone,
Sorry for the delayed respond as we were working hard to fix the internal network issues for the whole day (we've been keeping the support desk answered 2-30 minutes all day).
We at first were having problem with a customer adding unauthorized IP to his own server, and that crashed the switch, while we tried to reboot it several times, the switch managed to get itself killed. So we had to swap out the new switch that was supposed to be installed on the new rack for the new servers.
Right now there's a 24 hours delay for the servers that was meant to be provisioned today, as we've promised for 1 day you've to wait for the server setup, you'll get 2 days back for waiting as compensation, you're free to ask for a refund (1 person out of 15 has requested for it) and we'll have it refunded right away.
Feel free to call us, you can ask whoever called us, we pick up the phone within 2 rings 24/7.
If you're still having a problem, feel free to submit a ticket on our support desk or give us a call, 24/7 as always.
athlonkmf 11-22-2005, 08:16 AM the servers seems to be back online now. So I assume everything is OK now and the servers can be "live"again?
bunal 11-22-2005, 12:43 PM Can you post how many servers do you have free now and the price list for control panels. For example helm for windows.
Thanks

Athlonkmf, the hacking world consists of the dark force and is quite "deadly". Hi-jacking IP's is not something that's unheard of, it is quite common actually as this sort of thing happened similiarly in the past at other datacenter's I've been with. They don't need to reboot your machine to jack your IP address, anything is possible in the realm of haxors.

bunal, I think new orders are temproary on hold right now, but I guess you can try emailing sales to ask.
renegadeavenger 11-22-2005, 02:10 PM athlonkmf: From what I've heard, everything should be back to normal now, apparently the abuser that hi-jacked IP addresses tried to claim over 100+ IP's on the network.
Also, here is my response to this entire situation that happened:
I want to let everyone know that HostFresh.com has a very dedicated team. It is unfortunate for the problems that they are facing but don't we all face these sort of problems ? Every datacenter that I've been with had failures with cisco switches going bad or the port just dying. Abusers causing some problems on the network is not something that's unheard of. Just because of technical problems doesn't mean that there is problems with HostFresh.com. What actually counts is when you look at the company as a whole, how reliable are they? Reliability is determined by how quickly they fix a problem when something arise. So far HostFresh.com has provided that for me. They are also just starting off, some minor glitches with things are normal. Don't we all learn from mistakes? So far I don't think anyone should draw conclusions because their support is by far one of the best support I've experienced. Their team is indeed very dedicated to helping with support issues and I strongly think that their network has been up 99.99% of the time but because of the faulty cisco hardware and idiot abusers stealing other people's IP addresses caused some hiccups. Bill and his team has been working hard at the datacenter all day with the recent faulty cisco switch and hi-jacking IP abuser and didn't even have time to eat while spending over 15+ hours working there. Come on guys, give him some credit for his dedication. No body wants to experience problems but when it comes to hardware going bad that is totally unexpected and not controllable. I also totally respect HostFresh's decision on not accepting anymore orders until all current customers are happy and everything is stable. I've been with several datacenters that just keep accepting new customers and ended up with providing horrible support and constant downtime. HostFresh definitely has the right mindset.
Thank You HostFresh for providing an honest description of what happened and the quick repair time.
renegadeavenger 11-22-2005, 02:21 PM Just for everyone's information. I currently have 4 servers with HostFresh, only one machine was mainly affected during this, so for sure I know that it only affected a certain rack and it did not apply to all servers. My other 3 servers stayed online without any problems during the IP hi-jack.

.... if you did not noticed, we said that our machines gets rebooted all the time during that IP hijacking thing according to the syslog. Even if the IP gets hijacked, there should be no need to keep rebooting our servers.
Don't make IP-jacking sounds magicly, it's done easily and everyone could do it. Just that the datacenter should have put protection against such schemes.

We had to reboot the servers that's affected to find out what the problem is, because we didn't have root password to the server, it forced us to reboot and read the boot log on every machines. Sorry for the inconvienence for causing the trouble and everything is back to normal now.

I had 4 machines, only 1 machine experienced the reboots, my other 3 never got rebooted at all and were running happily during this problem. I guess it was restricted to only a few machines and definitely not everyone. In general datacenter's don't have too much protection with hi-jacking/stealing of IP's. I think one of the only solution for actually protecting IP addresses to specific machines is with the use of Vlans.

wasn't it better if you asked the user for the root password then?
Because with all the reboots I couldn't trust the databases anymore and did a complete DB-restore to ensure that my data aren't corrupted.

How about enforcing IP-rollout on switch-basis? Routing only to given IPs, and IPs that should not be accessible on that particular switch would be ignored. This of course requires much more networkconfiguration and management on the hoster-side, but it will reduce many problems like this.
DeVious HostinG 11-25-2005, 10:30 PM Ordered a Box last night, cant wait to get my information :)
