Some moron(s) is DDOSing my server every day early in the morning and I was wondering if and how I can use PortSentry or some other network intrusion software to combat these attacks. Server has already crashed once because of this.

Please help. I'd like to prevent this somehow. It's annoying.

Do you have a firewall? use ipchains/tables, etc? Also, contact your host to setup rules to drop his packets. Also ask if they can setup filtering on your line that comes to your box.

Get his ip and DOS his ass with all your assets, do it in the early evening when he's likely to be browsing his porn or warez, piss the hell outta him.

so let's just support DDoS attacks with DDoS attacks? ever heard the expression, fight fire with fire, and in the end what do you get? fire. (added to for my reasoning) talk to your host, then worst comes to worst, collect logs, and report it.

What services is the attacker attacking, and with what method? We may be able to provide some suggestions.

Also, what OS are you running, and do you maintain your upstream router?
