View Full Version : Reporting a Bad Host - How to?

Hello all. I'm hoping someone can give me a link or more info on how to report a host/hosting company? I've got action started via the BBB (www.bbb.org), but isn't there an org that also is a watchdog specifically for online/www things like this? I tried ICAAN and INTERNIC, but they mainly are concerned with domain names - which this is not an issue about.

In my case, the problem is that the host (Certihost, btw) charged me for two accounts even after I told them not to until a problem was resolved. It's not like they didn't receive my request in time - they did, and I have everything in writing. It's not *necessarily* a money issue - it's the idea that they went ahead and charged me anyway... it's like they knew I was contemplating canceling my account, and they wanted to get another charge in. Not only bad business, but unethical - and not to mention illegal. Doing some research in various forums and host reviews, I've found I'm not the only one this has happened to - but I am one who WILL report them... just as soon as I find out to whom.

If anyone knows where I should go with this, if you would please let me know? I'm sure I can get my money back via a chargeback (I've asked Certihost, but they say no way), but I still want to report them and possibly stop them from continuing this practice.

Thanx.

yup reporting them to the bbb will do some good, but the bbb won't really investigate unless they start receiving a lot of complaints...

if what you want to do is warn other's about their practices (warn not flame) then post your story on forums like WHT and comment about them on web hosting directories if they're listed....

akashd,

Yes, unfortunately you are correct about the BBB; that's why I was hoping for more info.

I could post the emails here of all the back-and-forth stuff regarding the account problems since day one... but would that be a good idea? There are many, and I'm not sure if people really want to see them... I don't want to take up unnecessary space or make anyone mad :kaioken: at me for doing that.

What do you think?

(p.s. Plus, I think I'll ask in some other forums as well....)

Do you mean that they charged your credit card, or that they charged you money?

The bbb has zero power to do anything aside from maintain a record that says who's naughty and nice and why. They have no state or federal mandate to enforce anything - kinda sad really..but it can't hurt to get it on record. Just don't expect anything tangible to come of reporting to the bbb. State AG is a better route if fraud is involved.
