Hello all
My apologies if this is the wrong area for this topic. I'm at the end of a very surfed out tether and need help! (web help, that is)
I'm making the transistion into paid hosting instead of free web space providers (angelfire to be precise). Now, here's my problem;
I have three different websites. I already have a registered domain i wish to put all three sites under. I'm fairly new to such terms as 'subdomains' and 'subwebs' but what i would like is for my sites resemble the following address layout;
mydomain.com/example1
mydomain.com/example2
mydomain.com/example3
After the added '/example' part i would then wish to add my pages (index.htm etc). I'm completely confused because i thought that was a subweb. However, i'm told by the hosting company that the proposed action above is possible but they do NOT support subwebs. Now i just don't know what i'm doing or need to do. The host in question is me2uweb.com and i'm using Frontpage for my designing/uploading.
I have been in touch with the support team but after one suggestion they told me that they themselves aren't that familiar with Frontpage and therefore are limited with advise in that department.
My question is am i asking for the right thing? I'm just v.confused :(
Any advice you could offer me would be of extremely great help :) And again, if i'm asking in the wrong area or indeed the wrong forum(!) my sincerest apologies. I asked for help here some time ago and got great support.
Best wishes

Your examples are just of subdirectories, not subwebs. Any host can do subdirectories (I dare anyone to make a liar of me).
Subdirectories are like your examples:
www.mydomain.com/example1
www.mydomain.com/example2
www.mydomain.com/example3
and under these, are the pages, such as index.html, etc.
These can be done yourself with FTP.
Now, subwebs are like this:
www.mydomain.com/~user1
Note the squiggle "~" which is the hallmark of the subweb. It is different from just subdirectories because it has its own FTP, e-mail, control panel, etc. It's like having an independent website account. A similar option is the subdomain, which looks like this:
subdomain.mydomain.com
This also allows for separate FTP, email, etc. accounts. Some hosts don't offer subwebs or subdomains, but most do.
Edit: Just wanted to add that none of this has the slightest to do with FrontPage. You can add subdirectories, which look like your examples, with or without FrontPage, and whether a host can do subwebs or subdomain is also independent of FrontPage.
By the way, you can do a lot better than £12.00/month for 50 MB, and most hosts do offer subdomains and subwebs for no extra cost. PM me if you want recommendations.

Nice description Lurleene,
ForeverYoung: Based on your description of the support response of this company above, I would highly recommend moving elseware. Although your experience of them is the most important consideration, from that description they seem like they are completely unwilling to support you with even the most simple of tasks.
Good luck,

FrontPage does indeed refer to those as subwebs. Especially if each one is it's own site with it's own users and groups, where you actually get the subdirectory by creating a subweb.
I'm betting that what the web hosting provider thinks that you asked them is if you could host your site off of their domain name.
They probably think that you were asking if you could host your site off of their domain like this:
me2uweb.com/mywebsite
Especially if you confused them with the irrelevant information that you're switching from a free space provider that makes you host off of their domain name.
More than likely, you have just confused them. You should just order your web hosting with your domain name.
Then use FrontPage to set up your subwebs. As long as they support FrontPage, you should have no problems creating subwebs in your web space. I doubt that any FrontPage web hosting providers don't allow you to make subwebs.

Many thanks for your replies. They have all been of great help and i feel now that i'm actually headed in the right direction.
Lurleene: very well explained. and my sincerest thank you! The hosting plan with me2uweb is about £20 (a year) for 100MB space. I would be open to any recommendations you can offer :)
Bitserve: i already have hosting with them and purchased my domain with them at the same. When i went to them with this problem i made a point of being very upfront with them about the fact that i could be wrong with the terms i was using when trying to get my problem across. I gave them a full example of what i was trying to do in my emails so that even if i did get the lingo wrong they could see what i was attempting. The main problem i seemed to have been encountering with them was that although they offer Frontpage extension in their hosting service they told me they're not all that familiar with it. I do take a certain amount of the blame for the confusion but the emails back from them were very short and after one suggestion (which i'd already tried) they came back saying sorry but they don't actually use Frontpage themselves.
Hitspot: I agree. I was finding myself very disheartened at the whole thing. As said above, i do take on board that some of it is my fault but i did explain to them as best i could and layed out my examples as clearly as possible all the while explaining that i could be using the wrong terms etc. As they say, it's an experience i will learn from.
Again, thank you all for your assistance :) (and i apologise for yet another lengthy post!)

FY,
Sounds like Bitserve knows more about FrontPage than I do (I don't use it myself). Since "subweb" is a term that I was familiar with outside the realm of FrontPage, I assumed there was no connection at all. But the industry standard terms are like my definitions.
I also think Hitspot is right that you aren't getting satisfactory help from your host. Your nonexpertise shouldn't preclude basic help.
As for pricing, I assumed the prices on their website were per month, since I didn't see it stated otherwise. I've changed my mind, the price you have isn't too expensive. It's too cheap. :D 1.66 GPB per month won't keep a company afloat. (JMHO). The danger of your host going out of business (and probably providing lousy support in the meantime) is high.
I'll post if I can think of any good UK hosts I've heard of, but I haven't used any myself.

supanames.co.uk are cheaper again, only £13.99/year for hosting.
