The posts regarding Rackshack don't make for a good nights sleep when one is in the market for a dedicated server at a budget price, with the kind of bandwidth they offer.

Most problems seem to stem with lack of support on the part of RS, but they do make it clear their servers are UNmanaged.

I was wondering if it's possible to hire a system admin. on a as needed basis; or whether there is a company that specialises in this kind of support service- that bills you for work done when you need them.As you might tell, my budget is pretty tight!

Can anyone advise me on this please?

What's the easiest way to learn Unix then without playing around on a server? Website tutorials? Book? Etc?

There aren't really many ways without playing with unix directly (actually, I think there is none).

Basically, get a decent book and obtain general knowledge and then play with a unix server and earn experiences. (trial and error)

Of course everyone has the time to do this... Try the job requests or other requests forum... You'll need to find someone with decent reputation as this person can do many shady things that you may not find with your server.

realdum, since you've disabled e-mail and PM contact, it's hard for anyone to contact you to talk further. I don't think I'm allowed to comment here, but if you're looking for a Systems Administrator for Rackshack servers, PM me.

Moderators, I know I'm not allowed to advertise here, but the user who started this thread has no other way to contact them, you can delete this post if you have to.

There are firms that do this sort of work - I happen to run such a firm.

If you're still in need, drop me a note at feanor@gondolin.org.

Moderators - sorry for the post, but there's no other way to contact this user.

Thanks,
Bryan
