Sure thing :)

i've looked over all requirements, its some how hard for companies in our area to meet their requirements, but nothing is impossible ;)

i'm in the process for the past year and still stuck at the insurance part because insurance companies in kuwait doesn't offer insurance for E-related issues yet, as you know its kind of new to our area :)

Bel tawfeeq, and if you needed anyhelp don't hesitate to ask.

Hi,

This is what i found on their page;

________________________

* US$2,500 non-refundable application fee, to be submitted with application.
* US$4,000 yearly accreditation fee.
* Variable fee (quarterly) paid once you begin registering domain names. This fee represents a portion of ICANN's operating costs.
* Transaction-based gTLD fee (quarterly). This fee is a flat fee (currently $0.25) charged for each new registration, renewal or transfer. This fee can be billed by the registrar separately on its invoice to the registrant.
* Please refer to the ICANN Budget for additional details about invoicing, including options for relief and fee caps.

You must have:

* US$70,000 in working capital requirement. THIS DOES NOT NEED TO BE PAID TO ICANN; ICANN requires only that you demonstrate (by submitting an independently verified financial statement) that you have at least this much liquid capital (cash or credit) before your ICANN accreditation becomes effective.

that is an exhorbitant amount of money being charged by a public organization like ICANN. i know there are servers maintenance fees, etc., but it can never be that much as being charged currently. is this a democratically electred organization or just a profit-making commercial organization? i believe it should be run under the auspices of United Nations and not under the military rule of USA. i heard a news that their 8 servers are currently under guard of US Army. Having good security is good, but due to current war on terrorism, US authorities can't do the justice as the UN force can.

a natural question comes into one's mind. I am from Pakistan and .PK domain is currently being handled by a commercial organization in USA, not by the Government of Pakistan. Isn't it supposed to be run by the local servers in Pakistan and by the more competent authority like Government instead of some greedy individual or commercial organization?

.PK or any other ccTLD is not required to be handled by government, but its supposed to be.

some countries can't or don't have the eforts to handle such matters so they outsource it to commercial firms to take care of them.

in Kuwait the government took over back in 1998 because from 1992 - 1998 it was taken care by one of the ISPs in kuwait because of lack of experience at the government.

back to the ICANN accreditation, the fees are correct and to get accredited by other registries like .com/net/org/info/biz etc.. they require an insurance that covers 500,000-1 million USD such as verisign that runs com/net they require 1 million and some others require 500K, so if you appy for an insurance that covers 1million it will take care for all registries.

this comment of yours is a SLAP on the face of the Government of Pakistan and their IT departments like Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), etc which are getting millins of US dollars budget but unable to handle this "core" issue. How pity!!! one can only scould himself/herself for being born in such a place where an in-competent and corrupt government is wasting talent pool and tax money IT in Pakistanis. Is there any way we can complain to the global consortium or someone in UN to ask Government of Pakistan about mis-handling of IT and internet infrastructure in Pakistan? if so, i will lead the way to it as there are thousands if not millions in Pakistan whose livelihood depends on such an infrastructure. please dont' mis-understand my post as of trying to put a bad mark on my lovely Pakistan, i am scoulding the corrupt and in-competent PSEB, IT departments of the Governmetn of Pakistan, not Pakistan itself.
