I've recently noticed that India with a thriving industry and about a quater of the worlds population is high on web names.
The country's indicator = In, EG www.Thebestwebonthenet.In (http://www.Thebestwebonthenet.In) are commanding a registration fee of about 35/38 punds for the year as opposed to dot Com which is about 9 pounds.
why is this?

Most ccTLDs are more expensive than .com - with just a few exceptions such as .uk which is run by a not-for-profit organisation.
The smaller your market, the higher your overheads per domain - it's as simple as that. .com has a global market, ccTLDs don't.

i remember .tt domains were $1000/year
some other .tv domains are like 1million/year too :D
and some countries like .com.sa or .np .tk .co.sr are FREE
it all depends

All the information is on the nic.tt web site.
Second-level domains (i.e., domains registered directly under .tt) are USD 1000 for the first two years and then USD 1000 per five-year period thereafter - so it's really USD 200 per year except that you need to pay for five years at a time.
Third-level domains are USD 100 per three years.
