For a good IDE 1U, I would look at the IBM 3XX series. They are really nice servers.

Being a bit of an OS bigot I will have to reccomend the Sun Fire series from Sun:

we have had great luck with the Intel ISP1100's and from our other distributor www.interpromicro.com
Dell Poweredge 1650 is my personal favourite. Its a real powerhouse and is small :)

Dell Poweredge 1650 is my personal favourite. Its a real powerhouse and is small The only problem is that it is SCSI and he does not want SCSI. The only 1U server that Dell has w/ IDE is the 350.

I'd agree with rally and go for APPRO.
If cost is an issue, then i've seen a 1U chassis available with the same spec as APPRO's but unfortunately I can't remember where. If someone else here knows of it then you should be able to match APPRO for significantly less cost.

Actually, no I hadn't looked at einux before.
There are however some fine chassis there so it seems the better designs are filtering down to the mainstreem.
- Still expecnsive though!
I'll try and look through my mass of bookmarked websites and see if I can find who I was thinking of.

I'm going to have to give einux.com a big NO!
They sent us servers that were missing memory, cd roms and do not reboot after a power failure or total reboot.
They will do nothing about it. We are getting ready to charge back the entire purchase and possibly go the legel route if they do not respond.
