Hello I am a reseller and I have a customer that has a database of 18,000 emails that he would like to send a message to. Does anyone know if it is okay to send that mnay emails at one time? He will be using outlook to connect via pop3 to send the emails.
If perhaps you have a better advice I am open to all options.
Thanks for any help you can give me and my customer.

Hello I am a resellerYou should really discuss this with your provider. Chances are there are some email hourly limits in place to limit abuse and the risk of spammers doing a lot of harm.
You can not send E-mail via pop3 actually.
Beware, your client might be trying to send spam E-mail messages, which is prohibited and illegal.
First of all read the Terms and Conditions of your Provider carefully, then contact your customer and ask why he wants to send 18,000 E-mail messages. You can also consult with your Provider regarding the issue, to be on the safe side.

Well actually I did contact my provider and he seemed kind of unsure as to what the limits would be.
Here is a copy of the online chat session we had.
"Host": hello
"ME": hi there
"ME": I just have a fast question
"Host": k
"Host":
"ME": My customer wants to send alot of emails, he is a realtor.
"ME": he has a list of 18,000 names he wants to send to
"ME": is that a problem?
"Host": I think yes
"Host": you can send only 200 emails per hour
"ME": hmm, any idea how many he can send
"Host": wait a moment please
"ME": sure
"Host": I need to ask our manager
"Host":
"ME": thanks
"Host": he would need a dedicated server.
"Host":
"ME": okay will it is only a one time mailing so I dont thinkl he will
do that
"ME": he will probably just send 100 at a time
"ME": would that be okay?
"Host": you can try
"ME": okay :)
"Host": but w 'll have to suspend his account
"ME": hu?
"Host": if mail queue
"Host": be overfulled
"Host": ut I think it's ok
"ME": Okay then you need to give me an exact number and I will be sure
he stays under that
"Host": Please ask him do not send more than 100
"Host":
"ME": okay
"Host": Thank you
"ME": I can do that I actually created 180 seperate groups for him 100
in each...
"ME": so how long do you think he has to wait between each group of 100
?
"Host": I think
"Host": 10 mins
So after reading that I am not too sure if he knows what he is saying, first he says 200 an hour, then he says that he may be suspended. And finally he says 100 then wait only 10 minutes between each send. To me that would mean closer to 300 per hour.
As for the validity of the email it is legit, my customer is a Mortgage broker and purchased a list of realtor names that wish to be contacted so I am sure it is a legit mailing.
Does anyone know where I can say pay a service to send my message to all 18000 people and not risk my or my customers account? Perhaps their is a service provider that offers this service?
Thanks again for any advice you can give me.

Perhaps if you had a VPS you would be able to accomplish this, but with this many addy's your ip will surely get listed on spamcop or others eventually I would think.

Most hosts limit the amount of emails you can send an hour to 100-500. Anymore than that will most likey be a spammer and get your server IP on junk mail lists.

There are indeed folks you can hire who would do this for you. Your best bet, though, would be to go to Download.com (http://www.download.com) and get a mass e-mailer program that acts as its own SMTP server. I've used on of these before, and this way you won't have to worry about any of your ISP's limits.
