View Full Version : ItsYourdomain
Hello
Anyone has experience of transfering domains from ItsYourDomain to somewhere else?
They have very hard business process for transferrring ownership (they charge $35 if there is enough time to expiration and $300 if it is near expiration).
1- Is there a unified law on transfering domains from registrars?
2- I have about 25 days to expiration. Is it enough to transfer domain?
3- Do they charge for transferring domains out ?

Mac
clemzonguy 04-19-2002, 07:31 PM Transfer your name to Namecheap.com for 8.88. Therefore extending your domain for another year and then transfer ownership for free. Correct me if i'm wrong but this seems the best option for me if i'm selling a domain.
Then again the $35 is good in the sense that you are paying for the courtesy of doing things in a proper manner and making everyone feel cozy and legal about it leaving less stress about disputes later.
A domain should take about 7-10 days to transfer max assuming your contact email is correct, there are no locks on your domain, and people cooperate.
I don't think companies can charge for you transferring registrars someone correct me if i'm wrong. I do believe some of my names are through ItsYourDomain.com through a reseller.
thewitt 04-19-2002, 08:22 PM There are no standard business practices enforced for domain transfers, so yes, you can be charged by your registrar for transfering away from them. They can also force you to fax them documents proving you are who you say you are, or send them certified mail, or make you jump through just about any other hoops they want to. They do have to let you transter away, but they don't have to do it for free or easily.
A number of registrars charge to transfer away, though most who do don't tell you about it until you attempt the transfer out.
Some registrars will also charge you just to attempt a transfer into their system, and when it fails, they wash their hands of you and collect their fee.
Recently, we have seen a very high rate of failure for transfers into our system the first time. Admin emails are often incorrect, the transfer acknowledgement is handled incorrectly or not received for some reason. The domain is on registry hold and the owner doesn't know it, or the losing registrar just cancels the transfer or fails to acknowledge it and it fails. If you are not careful, you can spend many $$ trying to transfer away, just to still be stuck at your old registrar.
We have a number of transfers in our queue right now that are between 5 and 7 days old and have not timed out so we can't resubmit them. They are supposed to either work or timeout in 5 business days.
Whether or not 25 days is enough time is relative. It should be - you should be able to complete a transfer in less than a week - but I've seen registrars reject transfers as many as 5 times - with 5 business days between each rejection - before we were able to successfully pull the domain into our systems.
Good luck!

Thank you for your response. So it seems I may have a hard job with ItsYourdomain as they need some fax works for ownership transfer and they may need this for registrar transfers too.
I have done transfers from regsterfly but no experiene with ItsYourDomain.

thewitt 04-19-2002, 08:59 PM I don't mean to discourage you from trying, I just don't want to set your expectations too high. When a registrar requires faxed documents, or certified mail, or other non-electronic means of verifying that you wish to actually transfer out, it's not generally for security reasons, but it is instead to discourage you from transfering.
Good luck.

fosterlabs 04-22-2002, 01:49 PM If the above facts are true about itsyourdaomin then "it doesnotfeellikemydomain" should be their name.
sarmadys,
I have 1 domain through them that was registered by a third party (unknowing to me at the time)
I have just moved all my acocunts to a new company and have had to put DNS changes in for all my domains.
The one domain at iyd changed with-out any faxing.. just logged-in to my account there and changed it (I didn't know I had an account there.. I got them to e-mail the password to the domain contact, which thankfully was one of my e-mail accounts)
I have just put in a transfer request to them to move the domain from them to another register.. 2 days gone by and so far no response from iyd.. I'll let you know how it goes..
or if you are doing the same please post any fees they required or if they made you fax anything.

fosterlabs 04-23-2002, 07:36 PM just to let you all know there is still no word from iyd on my transfer...
What do I do if they don't contact me?

fosterlabs 04-29-2002, 02:06 PM Well, I still never received an e-mail from itsyourdomain.com but my domain has been transfered I think.
iyd still shows my account and says the name will expire in August of 2002 but a Whois search on a 3rd party website shows the expire date of August 2003.. So that would be with the added on year for when I transfered the name.
Plus I have access to all the domain settings with my new register... so I guess that's that.

clemzonguy 04-29-2002, 02:38 PM Yeah I had to go through the same thing about two months ago with three important domains. The choice was pay 99.00 for three names or pay 11.99x3=35.97 which if you ask me that's a huge savings. This is before i knew about godaddy or namecheap or other resellers. But still not a bad deal. Just make sure if you transfer you have a large window to work with at least a month. It should not take more than 7-10 days. Mine took about 7 days. I have to transfer two more but I have about 9 months to work with.
John-Kevin 04-29-2002, 04:26 PM Transfer of domain names to Godaddy take about 4 to 5 days. I did it twice and it works great! Fully automated proces.
Hello Again,
I also did not received anything from itsyourdomain.com
But they finally transfered my domains to stargate last night (after about 10 days).

I am the director of Tech Support for ItsYourDomain- I was referred to this thread.
There is no charge to transfer out of our system to another registrar. We do have security measures in place that require consent from the administrative contact for the protection of the domain owner, but that is all that is required.
The $35.00 fee refers to an ownership change. It's just like selling a house or car- it requires paperwork. We process it manually to verify, again for security reasons. That's why there's a fee for this service.
If anyone has any questions, you can get the answers direct from support@itsyourdomain.com.
John-Kevin 05-31-2002, 01:29 PM Transfer of domain ownership is only:
9.95$ at Godaddy.com ';)'
and
FREE at namecheap.com ''
TheOp 05-31-2002, 02:25 PM Ownership transfers, and more, are free at stargate.com.
freakb0y 08-29-2002, 02:13 PM Anybody working with ItsYourDomain lately? I have some major problems with my affiliate account there. I've emailed them at support@itsyourdomain.com, but they do not respond.
They used to have great support, but it seems everything is going to hell there. Is anyone else experiencing this?
freakb0y 09-05-2002, 06:26 PM Well, I still haven't heard anything from ItsYourDomain after trying to contact them numerous times.
And by the way, transfers at godaddy at currently only $7.75! Guess what I'm doing with my domains? ;)

We just started working with their affiliate program this week. So we will know next month how thing are, when it is time to pay the commissions. So far there wasn't any problems things are fine. What kind of problems you have with them?
I am seriously thinking about moving enom, but I like their reseller interface very much.
Thanks,
