View Full Version : Weird... Spam?

I don't know if this ever happens to anyone else, but this is really puzzling for me.

Lately, I've been getting lots of e-mails from people I don't know. Normally, I could just put a block up or something if I see that it's spam.

However, the strange thing about these messages is that there is *no* message inside. Just a subject and then a blank e-mail.

I currently use hotmail, and I'm not sure if it's because some people are e-mailing me and their messages aren't getting through, or if it's something else. I operate a website and lots of people I don't know e-mail me, so I'm just wondering if it's a glitch with hotmail or something else. I can still read most of my other messages fine, but I find this really strange.

Can anyone come up with an explanation? If it's just spam, I would assume they'd at least have some sort of advertisement inside

It might be HTML email using frames. I've received quite a bit of spam of that variety lately... including some which (within <NOFRAME> tags) says "Please use Outlook Express".

I still find this really odd...Aside from the no-content e-mails I've received, I just received the second e-mail, identical to one I received earlier, which says:

This is a funny website. I expect that you will like it.

And then nothing. No URL. The sender is unknown to me. Both senders sent me the same mail, but they seem to be different people (or at least operating from very different addresses.)

Could this be some sort of virus spreading around e-mail programs or something?

This all seems to have started yesterday, whereas before that, I have never gotten *any* spam at my e-mail account for several months.

Since yesterday, though, I have gotten at least 5-6 of those strange e-mails. I haven't been doing anything differently than what I've been doing the last few months, so I'm just very confused about this whole thing.

I seriously hope you have good antivirus such as Norton Security. A lot of those blank emails have virus in them that you never notice unless you have antivirus that pops up a warning telling you about it and automatically stopping it.
