View Full Version : whats the dirt on 4webspace.com?
diyoha 01-10-2001, 01:32 AM Hello,
has anyone had any experience with 4webspace.com ... good or bad. I am considering using them, their pricing seems very reasonable, and they claim to be part of http://www.tera-byte.com/ which has a decent rep.
any info would be much appreciated!
thanks
David
kunal 01-10-2001, 02:13 AM Diyoha, they have an excellent reputation around this board. If you would do a search on them, something would definitaly come up. You can search by using the top right hand corner link.
diyoha 01-10-2001, 02:48 AM Hey Kunal,
I already did a search and they do seem to be highly rated by some people on this board. And the company was mentioned a lot in passing ...
My objective of this thread is a more directed discussion of any pros and cons of using 4webspace.com from any actual users, ex-users, potential users, etc.
thanks
David

David, they are part of tera and although I didn't sign up through 4webspace, I have a server there and they have been a great provider. No complaints what-so-ever (which is pretty amazing when you think about it).
Really, things that have been wrong have been fixed quickly, support and connection are very good. I can't think of anything bad to say about my experience with them (about 6 or 7 months so far).
diyoha 01-10-2001, 03:35 AM thanx Chicken,
Hopefully 4webspace.com are using the same crew as tera-byte.com :)

I think they are :) They are using the same NOC to ;)
Have a RAQ3 at 4 webspace.com since Sunday. Took additional 64 IPīs and upgraded to 256 RAM. So far everything fine: Fast response to the few questions I had (regarding DNS). They did set me up a "DNS control Panel". That is a site on tera-byte, where I can login and add domains to my RAQ and assign them to a specific IP from my 64 IP stock, or make them virtual accounts. Just donīt like the RAQ3 control panel so much as it is a bit slow when you need to change something but that isnīt the fault of tera-byte. Iīm satisfied with the server/network speed either. Iīll cancel my old server the next days when I have transferred my domains. My monthly hosting costs will fall from 840 to 119 a month (99+20 for 64 IPs) :)
-Edward- 01-10-2001, 05:12 AM Also have a server there and can not complain .... Excellent alround service and dont charge you for support like other companies.
diyoha 01-10-2001, 05:20 AM thanks for the feedback guys
so far looking really good for 4webspace
what type of connection do they have to the internet and how is the speed your dedicated servers?
Any negatives you can think of?
thanx
David
While Iīm waiting for a few domain issues to be resolved (hasnīt to do aynthing with 4webspace or tera-byte) I did put up a test page so I can see the speed, too:
http://216.234.186.79/test/
(Attention: Only the first 10 thumbs are connected to a pic, this is a test only. The cgi form doesnīt work either since I donīt have installed any cgi yet)
This is on a RAQ3 with 256 RAM and 10 GB EIDE. Page is 35 KB just the plain html source plus it has a whopping 100 thumbs on it. This is how I prefer to check real life speed: look at the bottom left corner of the browser and see how it counts/displays all the elements of the page from 1 up to 100.
Forgot to say this is a RAQ3 at 4webspace.com
Just out of curiosity, and if you find the time to click it, how does the ORIGINAL site
http://www.somecards.com/cards/
load for you? The domain somecards.com is NOT at 4webspace.com, while the IP given above IS at 4 webspace.
(I just copied it for this test and uploaded to the IP at my new 4webspace RAQ3)

David, ths was just posted very recently (since someone else had the same question). I'll try to find you the link, but if you do some searchng you might run across it.
Edit: Found it, posted by Keeg in this thread:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=4391
jabweb 01-10-2001, 12:49 PM The offer is pretty good, a RaQ3i for $99 and RaQ4r for $220. I'm trying to figure out if I should get a 4WebSpace or Tera-Byte RaQ. The reasoning is that Tera-Byte servers have standard provisioning while the 4WebSpace RaQ4r servers do not carry the standard PHP, ASP, and SQL from what they told me when I called them today.
diyoha 01-10-2001, 12:55 PM thats funny. I thought the raq4r automatically came with php and mysql etc. installed. Which was the major difference between the raq4 and the raq3. Correct me if I am wrong here
David
cbaker17 01-10-2001, 05:28 PM They do...
webfors 01-10-2001, 06:28 PM tim2, your raq page loads faster for me. :)
pippen 01-10-2001, 07:10 PM RaQ4 has PHP and InterBaseSOL pre-installed.
RaQ3 does not.
diyoha 01-10-2001, 10:43 PM thats what I thought. But jabweb mentioned that at 4webspace they charged to get php, mysql etc. installed ... which does not make sense since they should already be installed in the raq4r ....
can anyone confirm if this is true or not?
thanx
David
Chicken 01-11-2001, 12:00 AM I think this means that if you get the RaQ3 and want those things installed by them, you refer to the charge schedule. Otherwise for the RaQ4, it is already installed so thus it doesn't apply.
If they listed an add on for a second hard drive, this wouldn't apply either since the raQ4's they offer already have two (I think, at least this is from memory, which is dim at the moment).
diyoha 01-11-2001, 12:30 AM If that is the case then the choice of going with 4webspace or tera-byte with the raq4r is quite simple ... 4webspace offers the better deal ... unless I am missing something.
(although we might be defeating the whole purpose of 4webspace by comparing them with tera-byte :D)
this thread has been pretty productive so far! It seems that 4webspace is getting rave reviews from this forum ... and that is a very good thing IMHO. (nothing negative yet ... which is also a good thing)

4webspace == Terra-Byte

nope. If that were the case then there would be no need for a different name, website, and pricing.
My guess is 4webspace attacks a different market than terra-byte.
(unless of course you have a different reasons)

kunal 01-11-2001, 01:42 AM terabyte and 4webspace, are owned and run by the same company. The 2 different names are being used because both target a different audience.
horoscopes2000 07-04-2001, 01:52 AM I am under the impression from what their NOC told me 4ws are the dedicated side, whereas tb are the virtual hosts.
They are an absolutely excellent company by the way. i have had adedicated RaQ3 with them for 3 months or so and I am extremely happy. I have yet to notice even one second of downtime. Not saying it hasn't happened, I just haven't noticed it, and I check my sites many times per day.

Hmm, see what you mean here Chicken...
It looks like they simply haven't updated their "Order Now" page... Can I suggest that if anyone from 4webspace is looking that they updated the pages to avoid confusion...
Can't help thinking that $159 for an mysql install is a bit steep though... Anyone know what you'd get with that upgrade aside from mySQL itself that is?
jnestor 07-05-2001, 09:55 AM I've seen it suggested that if they install MySQL you can contact them for MySQL support where if you install it yourself you're on your own. I don't know if this is indeed the case. At any rate MySQL is a pretty easy install if you use one of the pkg's that are out there.
I'm also a happy 4ws customer.

So how much did you pay for your RAM upgrade :)
But seriously, nobody can go wrong with a RAQ3 from 4WS. Just upgrade RAM, install PHP/MySQL and you're ready to go. I had to wait 3 weeks for my 2nd server with them though.
horoscopes2000 07-05-2001, 06:15 PM 4ws are offering a special on their RAM upgrades. i ereceived the email this mornign and jumped all over it before I missed out. Thier RAM is normally pretty expensive, but I respect the fact that they are a business and have to pay their ppl. It is normally $111 up upg to 128MB, and $389 (!!!) for 256MB.
But! today they wrote and said they had a summer special going. $100 - $150 for 512MB depending on how much memory you already have.
Pretty good eh?
WebSnail.net 07-05-2001, 08:06 PM I guess it must be more cost effective and efficient use of staff if they can just tackle one type of job ie: RAM upgrades on a whole host (please excuse the pun) of servers in one go rather than one at a time
Not a bad idea that.
:)
