ive been wondering, how many hosts out there would recompile software to support new modules? example, recompile php to support a graphic library like GD?

What do mean? Do you interested in dedicated servers providers who can recompile your software or just hosting companies?

We do it quite often for our customers that request things that seem reasonible...

I for one, am always adding something new to my personal PHP or Perl configuration, so that is why I like to extend this kind of offering to our customers who like to play around with neat things...

Since we already compile in everything and the kitchen sink, I doubt that we'd recompile for an end user on a shared account.

If we did though, it would just go into our next update, and not be done right then. It would need to be tested and stuff first.

Perl modules are of course a different story.
