View Full Version : I just don't know where else to ask
So mods, if you want to move this please feel free...but please don't delete it as I have no idea where else to get an answer........
OK, As my sig suggests I run a free image hosting site. For the most part it's been fine, delete a few pr0n pics, a few copyrighted pics and mark the rest as approved. Takes 5 minutes a day.
But there is this one guy who signed up. He hasn't done anything overtly wrong so it's hard to just delete him and his pics...But they make me...uncomfortable.
I most likely shouldn't post his username but it has to do with "scat" and means "the condition of feeling sexual excitement focused on feces, sometimes in conjunction with infantilism." (per wikipedia)
Anyway, as I said he hasn't REALLY done anything wrong. But he very often posts pics of young kids. They aren't naked or anything, fully clothed, sometimes in schools, sometimes in formal posed shots. They could be HIS kids and he's posting them for far away reletives, I have no idea...
If his username was dad1234 i'd prolly not think anything of it. It's just the username and the type of images he uploads together that give me an uneasy feeling.
What would you all do? Should I delete his account? Pics? warn him? Leave my paranoid delusions someplace?
<<Sig removed>>
snapya 11-01-2005, 02:08 AM well it is your site and it is a free service if I were you I would take one of the folowing options:
1.Just Remove his account and forget about it!
2.Notify him and tell him what you think and mabe it will turn out they are his kids and you can get on with your life.
Hope i helped!
whatever 11-01-2005, 03:07 AM Unless your TOS says something against it, suspend the account and get on with life.
dollar 11-01-2005, 03:12 AM I would delete them for more reasons that I feel like typing out. This may seem harsh, but people don't have much of a right to complain about a free service. If they don't like it, they simply shouldn't use it.
Neoboffin 11-01-2005, 06:38 AM Theres nothing really wrong. You could get him to change his username if you wished, but uploading pictures of people is really no big deal. His username may mean something in another language.
Do you know which country he comes from?
Does your free image host allow hotlinking?
Do you have statistics on who views or where this image is being linked from?
Really, getting more information about how the images are used may be better. Afterall, this person would store them on his harddrive for personal use, not on a public image host where more people can view them.
GHDpro 11-01-2005, 07:37 AM I'm with Neoboffin on this one -- if the pictures themselves are not in violation of your TOS,
then there really isn't anything you can do right now unless he starts uploading images
that do violate your TOS, if you know what I mean.
What you can do is (as mentioned) check where the images are linked from. If that's
some fishy pedo-like site, then I guess you do have a reason to ban him...

It's a free image hosting service, there is no need to allow a person to host anything you don't want them to host, in the TOS or not.
anon-e-mouse 11-01-2005, 08:05 AM OK, As my sig suggests I run a free image hosting site. For the most part it's been fine, delete a few pr0n pics, a few copyrighted pics and mark the rest as approved. Takes 5 minutes a day.

Something wrong in this equation. You moderate the pics of everyone else, yet this guy's pics stay even though they make you uncomfortable? Take another minute of your day and remove them. It is your site, you can have the content there that you feel comfortable with.
Wullie 11-01-2005, 11:14 AM If I understand this correctly, you are basically worried because of the connection with infantilism and the pictures of the kids on this guy's account.
Infantilism doesn't actually involved children as such, it involves adults acting out a child's role. So if the photos were relating to infantilism, you would have things like an adult wearing nappies (diapers) and along the lines of that.
In the end though, if the pictures make you feel uncomfortable, delete them. Always trust your gut feeling in situations of this type.
scottelliott 11-03-2005, 10:01 AM If you want the easy way out it is simple.

SniperDevil 11-03-2005, 10:07 AM Hopefully you have a discretionary clause in your TOS wherein it is stated that you, the owner of the site, have complete discretion to delete pictures or accounts for any reason whatsoever, stated or unstated. Or, perhaps you have a clause which states that the TOS can change at any time, with or without notice. Now that you have this experience to tell you, simply add such a discretionary clause, and then simply delete his pictures and account. It may be professional to send him an email, but if you really don't want to, I don't think it's absolutely essential. Just don't expect to get any word-of-mouth traffic from his crowd.
The Stealthy One 11-03-2005, 10:39 AM Hmmm, I can see why this is such a complicated situation! I run a free image hosting site as well, and have been very lucky not to have any of this yet!
I would suggest contacting him and expressing your concerns. If you don't hear back from him within, say, a couple of days, I would delete the account. If you do hear back from him, then work on from there, but don't be afraid to delete the account if necessary. Go with your gut feeling on this one - it's probably right.
Good luck - and keep us posted!
Magma Designs 11-03-2005, 04:00 PM As was said above, they don't really have the right to complain about a FREE service. Just suspend/ban him and forget about him.
PalSys 11-06-2005, 01:41 AM I agree 100%...it's a free service. If anything at all is questionable, simply delete and ban and forget.
