Anyway, doesn't Microsoft host themselves? roly 04-19-2002, 08:36 AM Originally posted by ToastyX heh, I'll be damned if I ever want Microsoft in my portfolio. Get your facts straight before making false claims. ;) Originally posted by roly no they just have a bunch of dedicated servers with a dedicated server host (akamai) aleavens 04-19-2002, 09:19 AM Originally posted by Lonny Who is your MIC? :) the one you'll be happy to add to your web site saying: we host this site! IMHO ALL my clients are important. If you start saying this one is my most important you run the risk of ignoring the ones that you think are not important. You will start to measure your clients and say this one is, this one is not, etc and your clients will be able to tell. I have several clients that do not pay for thier hosting, they are various non-profits in my city, I give them as much support as I do my government clients. There is no difference. Lonny 04-19-2002, 11:06 AM Good answer, what I mean is who is the most known client - which company is the most famous, gets most hits etc etc BrianF 04-19-2002, 11:55 AM My most important clients are the ones that know my cell phone number and call me anytime they have a problem with anything. If there email is down for 2 minutes they let me know, even if it's a problem on their end. You can't argue that all of your clients are your most important, although we'd like to think that way, the ones paying 10 times as much as someone else and has a mission critical website on one of your servers is definitely more important. --Brian roly 04-19-2002, 10:31 PM Originally posted by Smirks Perhaps you should visit akamai.com, you'll see they're not a dedicated host, they're a "Content and Application Delivery" company. I have told him that I will call him back when I am dealing with my other clients. If you make a list and say this one is more important that that one then you have a problem with your outlook on life and people. and I feel sorry for you "less important" clients, it will not take them long to figure out that you consider them second class, and when that happens they will look elsewhere. I am not allowed to give the name. BrianF 04-19-2002, 10:38 PM Actually, Perhaps I have misspoken: I wasn't saying that I treat all of my customers differently depending on how much they're paying; I simply said there is a different level of support involved. For example, if I buy a $50,000 Compaq server and a $1000 PC from Compaq, I'll get 100 times better support with the enterprise server through their techs than I will with the PC...that’s basically the way that computer companies like Microsoft, Compaq, and Dell work. What I did not mean to sound like is that if I were talking to a customer I would not treat them any differently or as a second-class citizen, if you will. I’m simply trying to say that there are different levels of support involved with the service they have purchased. --Brian |
