Hi, because i'm goeing to get a 100 MBit flatrate i'm planning to start a host, just a very small, with Win2k, and just one server :)
My question is, are they sites with howtos, to get ftpserver software, scripts to autoactivate accz etc. because for the moment i know how to get apache working with all the small **** (perl, php, mysql)
Would be happy about any help :)
Thx

Depends on what hardware and software solution yoru using, by the way just out of curiosity who are you getting yoru connection too, are you going to have it in your own facility or are you colocating somewhere and how much are you paying. Sorry for the questions just curious what the industrys like.

maybe more, maybe not :p will i pay for 100 MBit, maybe i'm not goeing to get it ever ;)
I'm swiss, so i don't think that it is helpful for you :)
The 100 MBit are just for me! In my house :p
So tell me now where to get a ftp server, telnet server (?) and maybe an howto for webhosts...
I wanna use a dual athlon system with min. 512 MB and a big HDD! Serversoftware will be apache.
100Mbit to the house. Must be nice!
I assume you will be using Linux since you are going to be using Apache. If you are then you won't need to go anywhere else to get the other servers sicne they are included with every Linux distribution that I can think of. For example if you use Red Hat Linux and choose the "Server" installation during setup then it will install everything you will need (ie Apache, Sendmail, telnet, FTP, DNS).
As far as a place to learn about web hosting this place is as good as any I have found. You might also want to browse through http://www.recellar.com.

100Mbit to the house. Must be nice!

Win2k as a web host isn't really too bad. Its relatively easy to administer and is a really big improvement over NT4. It also has better scalability and uses its processors (on dual or more systems) more efficiently than NT4
-good luck

I just remarked that 100 MBit are theoreticaly :(
I will must fight with them, but i have good chances :) and you loose :p The first real unlimited bandwith, good eh?
What would be the minimum to get a small webhost, about 20 MBit?
About the OS, i think now more in the direction Linux because when all is included, it's much easyer :)
