View Full Version : Nonprofit Domain Name Dispute Resolution
muzer 10-28-2005, 09:07 PM Does anyone know of an organization that would provide assistance to a nonprofit organization get their domain.org domain back?
We have made a mistake during the renewal process and now the name is registered by someone who does not even use it. The name is parked with enom.
I checked into the UDRP and we can't afford the $1,000 + cost associated with the dispute process.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
dmaven 10-28-2005, 09:09 PM Your first step would probably be to contact the current registrant. If you explain your situation they very well may be compelled to help you. Outside of UDRP your options are limited
muzer 10-28-2005, 09:26 PM We are thinking about doing that. However, the registrant contact information is protected by the Domain Privacy Protection Service. If we send a letter to the proxy address shown on WHOIS will the letter be forwarder to the registrant?

dmaven 10-28-2005, 09:32 PM Technically this is how it is supposed to work. However I think domainsbyproxy allows a person to enable/disable email forwards. I would recommend to try regardless and good luck
muzer 10-28-2005, 09:36 PM Thank you.
I think we will send a registered snail mail.

dmaven 10-28-2005, 09:47 PM Best of success and keep us posted on your progress
muzer 10-28-2005, 10:13 PM Would it be a good idea to place a back-order through a service like snapnamesdotcom and then in the letter just ask the current registrant to not to renew the domain? Expiration Date is 14-Dec-2005.
dmaven 10-28-2005, 10:28 PM You may wish to contact the registrant first. If no response in 2-3 weeks perhaps use one of the drop services (e.g. pool, snapnames, namewinner)
Bashar 10-28-2005, 10:40 PM first email him and ask him nicely, even if he asked in the range of $200 get it since this is the cost most of the time to recover a domain from redemption
if he refuse or asks more then you' have no luck backordering it since it seems he knows the domain would be wanted thus he used privacy protection or so.
technically if u email him the email should be forwarded to him as dmaven indicated :)
muzer 10-28-2005, 11:10 PM ...n the range of $200 get it since this is the cost most of the time to recover a domain from redemption...
What is recover a domain from redemption? Is that another term for transferring a domain from one entity to another?
Bashar 10-28-2005, 11:13 PM there is a RGP Redemption Grace Period to recover an expired domain

muzer 10-28-2005, 11:28 PM Thank you for explaining.
Shall we ask the current registrant to let the domain expire or shall we ask for a ownership transfer?
dmaven 10-28-2005, 11:35 PM If they are willing to sell/give it ownership transfer is preferred
muzer 10-28-2005, 11:56 PM Thanks guys, I will keep you posted.
Bashar 10-29-2005, 01:50 AM if you're not in a hurry just wait for it to expire and see if he renews or not
if ur in a hurry just contact them normally its a bit more safe rather than waiting for auction or so
