View Full Version : how many per month?
m00ds 04-18-2002, 02:42 PM hello everyone. i'd was wondering whether you all would share some of your experiences running your own hosting business.
i would like to know how many new signups do you get per month (overall total for all offered hosting packages)?
thanks... :)
netsolutions 04-18-2002, 02:45 PM 30
m00ds 04-18-2002, 02:50 PM a growth percentage per month would also be nice. i'm doing some planning and i need a reasonable average for growth...anyone???
SoftWareRevue 04-18-2002, 02:58 PM It all depends on how much work you're going to put into it.
How much you advertise, site content, attractiveness of plans.
I don't think anyone can tell you how your business will grow.
And you shouldn't take other's experiences as a reflextion of how fast, or slow, your customer base will expand.
m00ds 04-18-2002, 03:06 PM well as far as i can say, i'm doing some serious planning. i agree with your opinions though but i'm not really gonna go into that as i don't think ppl will freely disclose that kind of information. i have my own numbers based on what you've just described. i just wanted to see how mine compares with others minus the details...
2Grumpy 04-20-2002, 12:51 AM Total new reseller and hosting plans:
153 so far for April
372 for March
379 for February
Since no one but Netsolutions actually answered the question.
Hmm signups are slowing down :bawling:
m00ds 04-20-2002, 02:53 AM wow that's really good. thanks Dixiesys
now if anyone else would like to share their experiences???
Synergy 04-20-2002, 04:18 AM Well if you have the budget or capital for extreme cheap and attractive plans then you will get alot more signups per that period. The only drawback is if you undersold for that period and new accounts won't pick up, then you will be in trouble and might see losses in profit for the next few quarters.
2Grumpy 04-21-2002, 03:36 AM Exactly Synergy, which is why all of my reseller plans are monthly ONLY, trying to flatten those cash flow spikes just a bit.
It helped a lot. Those 100 or so reseller accounts, all but 1 are monthly (1 dude freaking sent a check for a year haha no complaints on that!) so that really helped up the monthly recurring inflow of cash. If I sign up 0 next month, I'll squeak by, I'll be eating bologna on saltines but I'll pay the bills :D One thing that I never counted on, domain registrations, a very lucrative thing that I never really gave any thought to, until I realized "hey I'm doing like 4 of these a day at more than a $7 markup!"
Speaking of monthly billing and yearly, that will be a new topic.
Lonny 04-21-2002, 05:52 AM I'm not offering hosting services however the right answer for this question would always be 'not enough', right? :)
NexDog 04-21-2002, 06:10 AM Gary,
Great to see things are going so well. We are on a steady 75-85 signups a month with a marketing budget of around $700.

NAMI Solutio 04-22-2002, 01:19 PM You guys have to really keep in mind the price a company charges. Gary sells a lot of service, but his top plan is the price of my base plan.
I don't get near 300 signups a day, but my average sale is about $50 dollars a month or more.
So when figuring out your numbers, remember to keep into condiseration what you plan on charging. Obviously its a lot easier to get more signup if you only charge a couple bucks a month to host.
Take Care
Nathan

That must be a pretty good ROI, are you doing affiliate based marketing or participating in a lot of PPCSEs?
NexDog 04-23-2002, 04:17 AM Hi,
We just advertise at 4 places:
webhostdir.com
thewhir.com
findsp.com
hostpulse.com
Most sales come from referrals, though. We have an open forum and everyone there is very happy so it projects a good (and true) image of our service. I think the forum is an excellent asset.
AH-Tina 04-23-2002, 08:13 AM Last year, this time, we were getting around 10 - 20 signups per week. Now, we are averaging that per day.
Advertising, in my experience, is a waste of money. I have yet to find any ads that actually are worth the time, effort and cash.
Almost all of our new customers come from word-of-mouth referrals from existing customers and from participating in various webmaster and hosting forums.

Doing about 40 per month at the moment and growing nicely. I'll be lifting the prices again to try to slow down growth. We're a small niche based host so we don't chase those cheap $25/yr plans. One or 2 quality signups per day is good fishing for me. Small fish are sweet!! :D
Our sales average just over the US$30/mth bracket. Very low overheads - very good margins - very healthy cashflow. Good business model. Sales come from word of mouth, Joint Ventures [2], Overture.com and Google. Affiliate program to be released shortly. :)
