View Full Version : Which data center do you prefer ?
Keglius 04-18-2002, 08:07 AM Hello :)
I would like to ask a question... Which data center do you prefer to choose?
1. RackShack - Houston, Texas
2. DV2 - Atlanta, Georgia
3. WebReseller - Exton, Pennsylvania
Which yould you choose ? Which has better connectivity?
Thanks
2Grumpy 04-18-2002, 10:41 AM I have 3 servers in Rackshack and 1 at DV2.
I seem to have more connectivity issues with the Rackshack servers than the DV2 one, even though Rackshack lists more connectivity, maybe DV2 is just at a better Cogent pop.
I have no knowledge of webreseller.
In terms of support times, so far I've been much more pleased with DV2.
Asher S 04-18-2002, 10:48 AM Hello Keglius and welcome to the WHT forums :) You'll find WHT a very informative place for info related to hosting (and sometimes non hosting stuff as well :D)
Regarding your topic, I wouldn't use any of these because we use a different facility lol ;)
However if I were to choose then I would consider these factors.
1. Connectivity.
- Undoubtedly RackShack has a lot of carriers which is very good. Some of my friends have servers at RackShack and they are pretty decent in terms of speed/connectivity.
2. Support
- Now what you are getting with all these providers is an unmanaged server. That means they only support the network and the hardware. You are responsible for supporting the software yourself.
Now, in my case, I am an experienced sysadmin, so I don't care for software support, which anyways is not provided with an unmanaged server. However most providers do support their clients by giving them pointers on the software and all, but don't expect them to do much (like software installation etc, not unless you're willing to pay around $50+ an hour) this is true for all unmanaged server providers. However RackShack hardly provides support, I'm not making this up so don't flame me for saying this ;), look at the threads about them and you'll see what I say is true.
DV2 seems to have a good reputation around here and their service seems good and their network also seems nice. I think I would pick DV2, simply because RackShack although may offer a great value for money on the initial server but they charge a lot for additional IPs and stuff.
Just my 0.02 :)
Have a nice day.

I prefer WebReseller.net.....they are mins from me.....and they have great speed and so far great support.
I'm more then pleased......with things there so far. :)
RackShack I looked at some.....the big boy on the block......never been a client so I can only go from I've read here.
DV2 I did at them too....but again I've never been a client.....so I go by whats posted here.
Neither DV2 or RackShack I can say alot if any at all bad things about....because of the reasons stated above. Alot of folks like both of them.
iamdave 04-18-2002, 09:05 PM I like RS, haven't had any connectivity issues...
i was browsing these peoples sites in question , and i noticed something on the webreseller.net site that kinda pissed me off because they stole graphics from candid which has a really nice site (far better looking then the webreseller.net), plus the company i work for uses and swears by candid for all servers , so i know some of the techs , webreseller ripped THIS GRAPHIC (http://64.159.90.13/leftmenu.html) off of the candid hosting site you can check out the rip on webreseller.nets site at http://webreseller.net/starterdetails.htm . I seriously cant stand anyone that rips from others peoples websites , its bad practice and bad business not to mention illegal. After writing this , ill be notifying candid ...... stuff like this makes me sick , regardless of what webreseller.net offers , i couldnt consider them for anything now , all respect has been lost
JBIZ718 04-18-2002, 11:30 PM you know case...
It could go the other way around.
They stole it from webreseller.net...
Joe
yeah right , <edit> did you see the sites? <edit> First we'll look at the color scheme of candid, hmmm , pink , just like the picture . then we'll look at the server in the picture , exactly the same picture reversed , yet bigger on the frontpage of candids site . We will then examine webresellers.net page , the color scheme , if you wanna call it that - is , blue , tan and some yellows and greens , yet no pink . ok , now its time to get nitty gritty , if you notice on candid , that have a shadow on the image, the shadow is on the right side of the image , if you look carefully you can tell the image on webresellers.net was pruned , the top of the image on webresellers.net was placed there from the image that is above the ripped portion of the image . If i need to produce an example of this i can do that , but its just more then obvious this was a rip from candids site , not the other way around . Ill put it like this , i know which i site i rather own , and i know what site had more work put into it . Sorry if i came off rude , but come on know , we can say whatever we want , but what we know and see is a tad different
case
Or it could be that one of them bought it from the other..
JBIZ718 04-19-2002, 01:47 AM Well
Case i see your points but I also dont in other ways. Regardless of site opinion its not that uncommon of a image, whether webreseller got it or candid or what got it, ive seen it on many other sites as well.
Overall If its that important to a company they can trademark it. I dont think there is any evidence that webreseller stole this from them, the argument can be said on both sides.
Overall I also wouldnt judge any company based on a general image on there site. Within a month the service should produce that answer for you
Joe
iamdave 04-19-2002, 02:22 AM Maybe its stock photo....lol
Keglius 04-20-2002, 03:56 PM Thank You for your oppinions:)

skylab 04-21-2002, 04:36 AM to stay on topic.
i'll be hearing from webreseller shortly answering some of the questions i fielded them. if acceptable, i will be using them over rackshack.
They replied my initial questions quickly but then when I asked for more questions, they've NEVER replied me again. Now, this is a very weird attitude! This happened twice till I got tired of trying to contact them again with sales questions.
I'm still interested to get a server from them but their web site hasn't been updated yet (all sold out). But still if this weird attitude of sales/customer support continues, I'm not sure if their tech support would be better and more responsive :D
Again I like WebResellers they are mins from me.....so I can go and kick some butts and or servers around if trouble happens. :)

Mightly happy with their operation to date.

JaysonH 04-27-2002, 04:45 PM I would say they are both rips, seeing how candid is using the theme from windows xp. I mean, is it just lazyness or what, that they cant even remove the -, box, and X from the right part of the screen, and the little slide menu part from the bottom. Yeah, well. Thats from xp as well. Im not sticking up for anyone, but I wouldnt be complaining about webreseller. Look at candid, they are just as bad. I mean you say. "It looks like candid put more time in theres". Put more time into what? Alt printing screen in XP and pasting it into a editor? I mean damn. Give me a break. lol.....
Then your saying WebReseller is good??
ckpeter 04-27-2002, 06:28 PM ALS, are you affliated with webreseller?
Peter
Peter, I have a server with them....if thats what you mean.
ckpeter 04-27-2002, 08:45 PM I see. I thought you are employed by them. I have never seen a client so active in promoting a host before.
Peter
JaysonH 04-27-2002, 09:50 PM Im not promoting any host, im just sick of people complaining about stupid sh*t, I mean jesus people. He stole this, they stole that, WHO GIVES A ****. Get...Over....It...
If you want to get technical, everyone takes some sort of idea from another company, thats how the web is ran, you look over other companies, and see how you can better your own.
Peter....just so far they have done and said everything right.....quick support as well.
I just like the idea of them being local.....since I've started hosting or posting a web page.....all my hosters haven't been.
If I wanted to check their center out...its 15 to 20mins away. :)
JaysonH, lighten up some dude...before you blow a gasket...sure people who complain all the time tick me off....but I keep that to myself. Alot of things people say are stolen aren't really. I look at other sites all the time.....I don't really take things I'll use an idea then try to add it to something I come with.
I saw what some say WebRellers took from another site....I've seen it on a few other sites too....so who took it from who...who knows and who cares....its a icon. I use icons all the time places like IBM servers, MySQL and so on.....they are the same icons other use.
This makes no nevermind to me.....but this is off topic.....so back to the topic before the Mods decide to close this thread....
...and I still like WebResellers data center.......until they give a reason not to..... :)
ememex 04-30-2002, 02:36 PM i'd go with dialtone or rackspace - both have amazing uptimes and connectivity, and that's what really counts.
fractiousws 04-30-2002, 03:28 PM I like DV2, but the RackShack datacenter is very nice too.
